Parker Classic Fountain Pen

My heartiest greetings to all FPNER'S . Here I present my review about Parker Classic acquired recently.

DISCLAIMER; I have no affiliation with any person ,firm or organization.This is purely a subjective review and should be taken as such.

PRESENTATION; I would omit any comment on the box supplied with the pen for making my review concise .

CONSTRUCTION and DESIGNING;The pen is really a set with matching ball-point.It is constructed with brass with surface polishing of black lacquer.The clip , tassie and barrel- end are made of gold-plated metals which provides a very beautiful contrast .The ball-pint is matching with the fountain pen and complements very nicely.The pens reflect a modern and sleek design and provide a perfect example of beauty and elegance.

OPENING AND CLOSING;It opens and closes through a secure snap mechanism.The cap secures firmly at the barrel end.

FILLING MECHANISM; The pen can be filled with a converter or cartridge common to other modern Parkers.

NIB AND FEED; This has a unique design ; the nib is small and triangular in shape, it is gold -plated or sold gold I am not sure but keeps harmony with the pen and makes it so beautiful.

WRITING AND PERFORMANCE; The pen has a fine nib and writes very smoothly from the day one and the flow of the pen is excellent with no skipping or poor start or fade-out during long writing.

PRICE; I got this set for around a 100$ US which I think is a very fortunate buying .But this pen (especially as a set ) is quite rare to find as NOS.

CONCLUSION; ; I was always impressed with the design of this pen and willing to have one in my collection and now I can confidently recommend this pen for keen collectors and users. Writing with this pen is a joy and its a treasured possession in my humble opinion. Parkers deserve great appreciation for making such pens which now became history.

The Classic/180 pair are one of my favorite pens, if not my favorite pens. I always have one inked up.

• They are slimline pens, a bit larger in diameter than a standard wood pencil. So those with large hands may not like it.

• The nib is removable and replacement nibs (stainless steel and gold) are available on eBay. But you must be careful, old dried ink could be cementing the feed to the section. I use an UltraSonic Cleaner to clean this out. If it is tight, do NOT force it, or you could break off the tail of the feed inside the section...not good.
  If you want to, and can find one, you can even put the nib from a 180 into the Classic.

• The ink I use in mine is Waterman black. I tried Cross/Pelikan black, but it was too dry an ink for the nib I have.
  Note that the Cross/Pelikan ink worked perfectly in my WET 180 to slow down the ink flow. So you have to match the ink to YOUR pen.

This was my first fountain pen. I got it in 1990 discounted in an office supply store, as I recall, for $20. I was file clerking part time at a law firm, and a couple of the attorneys used fountain pens. This was one I could afford on a student budget, and it turned out to be a great first pen. I filled it three months ago after several years in a drawer, and it still wrote perfectly.
