Legacy Family Portrait

The Gastons are on the ends and the two next to the Cobalt Blue Gaston are part of the second set of variation released for the Legacy. There was also a lovely red bodied one.

Figured you'd get it right.... ;)

That's like saying, "I'm content with my Bentley." I agree 100%. They're gorgeous, the Touchdown fill is a pleasure to use and the nib is a blast.

Think you've summed it all up well.... :)

Well, I have switched to the squeeze filler. My touchdown just doesn't seem able to fill the PVC sac using the pneumatic touchdown apparatus. I have a half-dozen N.O.S. gold-tinted touchdown fillers, too, so either all the sacs are too stiff, or the seals are leaking.

I believe it was Brian at Anderson pens who recommended that I not rely on the original converter mechanisms in the Touchdown Legacy because they do not work very well. I replaced it with an aerometric filler instead. Not as sexy but it works.

So far I've had good luck with the pens that have the Touchdown filler.....but some of my Legacys have the twist piston converter....

Is there a reason touchdown fillers cannot be repaired? I would think that if Snorkels are fixable, touchdowns should be.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Those must be Legacy Heritage models. The twist piston converter does not fit the Legacy I and Legacy II.

No problem. The seals, o-rings and sometimes the converter need to be replaced.

Sometimes we think the supplied gold colored converter doesn't work and we replace it with the recommended standard squeeze converter. WTH and still sucks little or no ink at all! Just a reminder: Many are under the impression that the Legacy is the same as the TouchDown of old. It is a cartridge/converter pen, really a pseudo-Touchdown. The filling methods are different. RTFM.

To Fill Fountain Pen Converter Using Touchdown Plunger

...extend plunger to full length, and immerse nib approximately 3/4" into ...(bottle of) ink. While nib is submerged push plunger back in and extend again. On the final downstroke, press plunger down firmly. Leave nib in ink, count to ten, and screw plunger knob to barrel. Remove nib from ink and hold nib against cloth for 3 seconds to draw out excess ink.

One downstroke for the real Touchdown, two downstrokes for the pseudo-TD. This difference is sometimes overlooked by those new to the Legacy.
