I may be a noob here, but when I try and open it the program just shuts down... :S

Same here. I just downloaded the Mac version and it shuts down immediately every time I try to open it. Is there a patch or a fix for this problem?

What version of OS X are you using and on what type of Mac?

I just downloaded the database last night and have been inputting my pen and ink records. I have a request for the next version though. It would be nice to have a dedicated field for pen quality. For example, New Old Stock, Mint In Box, Excellent, Poor, etc. This is something I already track for my collection and would rather have it in a field by itself rather than just in the note or description field. Having this info in a dedicated field would allow my to sort by it and easily pick out pens I might want to have repaired or restored, etc.

Other than that, I really like what you've done here.

That's what the "Condition" field is for. Enjoy!

As with screenshots posted above show, I can't find a Condition field.

Collection Counts: Cross-4, Esterbrook-15, Eversharp-1, Graf von Faber-Castell-1, Jinhao-2, Kaweco-1, Lamy-6, Levenger-2, Monteverde-1, Pilot/Namiki-3, Noodler's-1, Parker-18, Rotring-10, Sailor-1, Sheaffer-19, TWSBI-1, Visconti-4, Waterford-1, Waterman-7

Favorite Inks: Diamine, Levenger, Private Reserve, Noodler's Lexington Gray

I'm on version 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard) on a Macbook Pro. Hope that helps.

Perhaps it's a Snow Leopard problem? I also downloaded it (and the coffee database, because I love coffee too!), and they both open and shut down immediatly.

Hi

I downloaded but when opening the program it says cannot find primary file and closes. I'm on a Mac OSX. Am I doing something wrong? Rob

Same here with snow leopard :(

It didn't work on 10.5.? (leopard) on my machines, either

Wish it would, because it seems to be very well done!

To be more precise: it just flashes open and immediately shuts down. The crash report says "exc_bad_access (sigbus)" and "kern protection failure" at 0x000000 etc...

Absolutely beautiful! One of a kind application specifically designed for fountain pen collectors! I foresee hours of fun organising and transporting my collection details from a word document and my photos in a folder somewhere into a coherent purpose built place!

People must think we are crazy having a app like this for our pen! Lovely thing and Window 7 compatible too may I add as I am using it right now! Cheers!

Thanks for the application - I don't know if you are my friend or my foe (just kidding). Finally forced myself to inventory. Now I know I have 30 fountain pens.

Especially like the export ability. Excel tells me I have: 14 Sheaffer's, 4 Parker's, 3 Waterman's (the rest assorted).

And I paid an average of only just over $38 per pen. Here's where we don't tell the spouse what that adds up to!

Thanks again for sharing your work.

Hey JonRo,

When you get around to looking at the thread...

1. First off, thanks for a great app for all the FPN people. I'm fairly new to all this, but after a few weeks I've gathered enough of the little pens to make use of the DB.

2. Let me second (or third, or whatever) the comment about the "Condition" field - I've got the PC version, 1.5, and it simply doesn't exist!

3. I've used Filemaker before, but it has been a while - is there really no "zoom" between 100% and 150%? Normal fills about 3/4 of my screen, but zooming makes it too big without scrolling. They probably never implemented incremental zoom, is my guess.

Well, none of that is a show-stopper, so thanks again!

I'm getting an "Cannot run...missing Xerces.dll" error when I try to run the db on windows 7/64.

Should I reinstall the program, or download and install just the dll file??

Thanks

Bob

Found Xerces.dll with the files for the program. Will try to re-install using directions from a .dll download site.
