Reluctant to put my only Japanese pen on this forum, for the pens I have seen here are not only stunningly beautiful, but costly. However, here is the only Japanese Maki-e pen I own. Please guys, don't be too hard on 'little sister' wanting to play with 'big brothers.'

Price doesn't usually mean anything anyway. It looks beautiful and anyone would be proud to own it, and that's all that matters. That clip is very unique! Congrats.

Seriously beautiful pen, Helen. Did you have that commissioned specifically for yourself? Who is the artist and are they independent or associated with a pen company?

I purchased this pen from an independent Maki-e penmaker from Japan in late 2008/early 2009. I wish I could remember the artist's name. To me the pen was beautiful, and is the only Japanese pen I own. It was sent in a simple (but typically Japanese) wooden pen box, with Japanese writing on top of the lid. When it was sent to me years ago there was a small piece of paper inside written by the artist in Japanese, so I did not understand it. I have often wondered what the words on the lid mean?? I just recently dipped the pen in some ink to do some writing, and I was very pleased with the smoothness of the nid. The nib is not 14K/18K gold.

My custom Danitrio Genkai pens based on a Shindo Labs theme. They were made to match my stereo equipment.

Stunning pens. I'm a tube audio person as well, although all my components are American-made. If you ever attend the DC or Dallas shows, I would enjoy meeting you.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

DC comes at a bad time in the year for me as it is too close to the end of our fiscal year. I should come out to Dallas one of these days.

Helen350,

The words on the lid of the pen can be translated as follows:

Upper right- 4 characters meaning ‘Flower, Birds, Winds and Moon’, which could be loosely translated as Landscape with Flowers and Birds.

Middle- 7 characters meaning ‘Modern Maki-e Fountain Pen’

Lower left- ‘Decorated with Gold Foil’

Hope that helps. Enjoy your pen!

Left to right: Platinum, Mitzukoshi, The Nine, Platon, Skater, Skater, Master, Master.

I'm a big fan of the Koi designs.

Regards,

Malcolm

Can't remember what this is, but it's the only Japanese pen I have with any decorations.

Random lot of pens that arrived yesterday. There was also a Platinum toadskin pen but that was for a friend.
