Both Sheaffer and Parker made special black ink that could be microfilmed well for use in V-mail. Below is an ad for a V-mail kit you could send to your loved ones in the service while still in the States.

A great slide show. I didn't know the whole process was so elaborate. I thought it was just thin paper with black ink. A shame they don't make the ink anymore. It sure made Sheaffer come to the forefront. Did anyone else make it?

Yes, Parker made a V-mail Quink. Noodlers is currently offering a couple of inks called Vmail but they are not the correct color to actually work with the microfilm in use in the 1940's.
