I bought my Sonnet back when they came out in '94 and it's been a go-to pen for me ever since. Mine has the semi soft 18k M nib and the thin cap lip band which I feel gave the Sonnet a unique look which seperated it from all the other wide cap lip banded pens out there. Here's my pen :

If I remember correctly, I bought the Firedance (18k nib) in 2007 for about Rs. 3500. I so badly wanted the newer shiny black lacquer model with 18k nib but it was priced at Rs. 6000/7000. That was a bit more than I was willing to spend at that time. I bought the matte black version instead with steel nib for Rs. 4000 in 2007. I also ended up buying a Frontier with a black barrel (made in UK) in 2007 for Rs. 1400 (or maybe Rs. 1600). Now a days the Luxor made ones with the same nibs go for about Rs. 600. I don't see a stark difference in quality either. The build quality and the writing performance is the same as far as my experience goes. The only nitpick I have is that the brand imprint/stamp on the cap isn't crisp on the Indian made Frontiers.

 

All this was before I discovered the pen stores around Flora Fountain in Mumbai. Until then I bought my Parkers from Shopper's Stop . Hari introduced me to those small shops and I started buying pens from them at much discounted rates. After moving to the US, my options have increased a lot.

Thats definitely a good deal.

 

I have a black sonnet with 18k medium and i love the classic touch the pen gives in ones pocket and also the nib design when writing.

 

Recently, i enquired about chinese lacquer frontier, and it is quoted Rs.7500 without box and papers in a nearby stores

 

Got it for Rs.3500. It has an extra gold ring in the section,less than a centimeter from the end of the section.

I was able to acquire a used Firedance Sonnet in 2016 from a local antique store. Presumably it is a luxor Sonnet because the pen has no mention of country of origin on it. Were the Luxor produced/distributed Sonnets marked 'India' or France on the cap?

This seems to be the case. AFAIK, the initial batches of luxor manufactured did not have the country of manufacture on the cap. Not sure about the latter ones.
