Noodler's Baystate Cape Cod Cranberry—A Handwritten Review

Here's one of the lesser-known Baystate inks, Baystate Cranberry. It was a really big disappointment, considering how much I like Baystate Blue. If you need a similar color that's actually brighter (punchier?), I definitely recommend Diamine Cerise. It's an all-around better ink.

The pinks and reds give me the hardest time for handling in my collection (besides the ever punishing but awesome Baystate Blue)

Hey, once you dilute it about 2.5 to one water to ink, it's much better. It won't quite be hot pink, but it will still be very warm.

If you get bleedthrough on Rhodia you'll get bleedthrough on anything. Is Concord Grape snarky too?

In my limited use the Grape is a dry ink, in my WT Exception (M nib), works like a charm so far.

 

It is a deep purple shade, not over the top bright like its siblings.

It is a deep purple shade, not over the top bright like its siblings.

 

It looks nice in the scan. I may have to give it a try.

Did the behaviour of Baystate Cape Cod Cranberry benefit from the reformulation stated in 2017? It's a striking colour that's for sure.

I was expecting a much darker color given the name... Has anyone seen a cranberry that bright? I sure haven't!  Thanks for the review and pity about the bleedthrough/feathering!

I bought all 3 baystate inks a few months ago and have been using them off and on. The Cranberry is a vivid, pretty shade of pink, not red, but nothing really outstanding. Same with the Grape purple, a deep rich purple but still nothing amazing. Only the Baystate Blue is as glowing as made out to be.

I accept the point about Concord Grape, but I think the Cranberry may be more vibrant. Only judging on others' scans though.

If someone wants a vibrant permanent pink, Rachmaninoff may be an alternative.

I find people comparing every other characteristic of these water resistant inks unfavourably to some other ink that dissolves on the page, is largely missing the point. Being water resistant is not some trivial accidental "feature".
