Can An Amazon Seller Cancel The Sale?

That would be VND 99,999. And believe me, it's a bargain!

Trust me, more people want you to sell an item at this price than full price to see how the seller could find VND 1 to give change. :D

Have you ever worked in wholesale or retail? Have you ever actually used these tools? I have, for well over 30 years. They are not 100% accurate, and frankly Amazon's tools for their retail associates are some of the worst out there. There are many ways with all of these tools to come up with inaccurate inventory numbers at the time a consumer looks to place an order. Believe me, I know. If folks are really interested in examples I would be happy to present some of the basic issues that come up.

Yes, I have, in mfg. My point is that the responsibility lies with whom makes the mistake. Why should the consumer pay for the mistakes? This will serve to make them aware and avoid the misprints or minimize them. In some places it is the law that if the seller makes a misprint he has to sell at that price once published. Be it a newspaper, a tag in the store or whatever. Good practice!

Not too long ago I had a similar experience.

I had an email exchange with a nibmeister and I explained the type of pen it was and what I needed to have done to the nib. They quoted me a price. It was a bit steep and I needed to have two pens done up this way. I told them I'll think about it.

Several months passed and I had the price in mind and I kept planning to save up enough from my monthly budget to actually pull the trigger.

Finally about six months later I sent out the pens. I sent an email continuing the same email thread where the price was quoted.

I got an email back saying the price will be higher now that they've had a chance to look at the pen.

I was quite dissapointed.

They started mentioning other nibmeisters' prices to me justifying the higher price.

I eventually asked to have them sent back the pens to me without getting the work done.

They made it sound like I was the one trying to cheap out and should find someone who'd do the work at a cheaper level.

In the end I was out the price of shipping. They were kind enough to pay for the shipping back to me. And the dissapointment was there.

I still need to find someone else if I want the nibwork done.

Knowing the type of pen and the the work that needed to be done on it, they should have quoted me a price and stuck to it.

This bumping up of the price arbitrarily and without notice seemed a bit like they were interested only in the cash.

I don't think I will have any other work done by them given what had happened.

Forgive my ignorance of Vietnamese currency. The high number reminds me of the Italian lira. But I see from the conversion calculator that VND 125 equals only about 10 lira. Wow! How much is a pack of gum?

ETA: Double wow!! About VND 25,000 to one US dollar.

Yes. I think so. In fact, you had a contract. However, If the seller refunds payment,

the buyer does not suffer loss. Of course, this impacts the seller's reputation and

trustworthiness. Feeling vindictive ? Trash him on the chat sites, truthfully, of course.

Maybe not in Oregon, but in California, good luck to a business thinking that and then have my MBA wife walk in the store...

;-)

It is the law in PR and the police will take care of any cpmplains. I would like to know how many other states has made this into law. I lived in California for 12 years and I encountered a mistake on a floor item once. They had to sell it for that price. MBA or not, this is the law in many places. I don't think they want a discussion about that on the floor.

Not sure about PR, but my reading of the California law does not state any obligation to sell at the listed price, merely that they may not sell for more than the listed price. It appears that in the case of a mistake they are not obligated to sell at that price and may refuse to do so.

No, they could not refuse. But note the past tense - the law was changed recently, primarily in reaction to label printing and price tag switching (consumer abuse and deceit).

Morality (ethics, really) goes both ways. If a transaction is entered in error and the error is noted, don't you have an ethical obligation to let the seller out of the deal without taking advantage of their mistake? Why should a seller be the only honorable party in this situation?

No reason at all, and I would not want to feel I'd "tricked" someone or left them out of pocket.

But it happened to me again yesterday, this time on eBay. At least it's helping my bank balance!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)
