Other Inks With Color Variance Like Apache Sunset?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here, but I've kicked around online and can't find the answer to my question.

I've heard quite a lot about Noodler's Apache Sunset, and I love that the color actually "changes" - yellow, gold, red, orange. (Is there a word for this??? It is different than just 'Shading'... but I'm not sure if there is another term to use.)

I'd like to know if you guys can recommend some other inks that show this phenomenon. I am especially interested in greens, and also blue/purple range. I've heard there might be a blue/purple with maroon shading in it for instance. The only green I know of is Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrun. Possibly also Edelstein Aventurine. (Not sure on that one. I saw one pic that made me think yes.)

Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated!

(I'm using dip and fountain pens.)

Check out Brian Goulet's video on YouTube of his favorite (7) shading inks.

Enjoy,

Very nice, his new updated shading inks video is from last month. I hadn't seen this one.

I love watching the Goulet videos, although I haven't seen them all. I also like watching the sbrebrown videos; these are also informative and entertaining.

I know! Gray!!! Who woulda thunk?

I don't have any gray inks yet, so can better justify another ink purchase. ;)

I like Diamines Autumn Oak. It's a similar color with not as bright from what I can tell. Having used both, they look different enough to have a bottle of each. Between the two I like Autumn Oak more, but Apache Sunset still looks awesome.

Crunching the numbers, IDK if it is as economical to do the big bottle... the free pen is a Preppy, converted to eye dropper. ($4 pen $2 conversion)

$12.50 for 3 oz

$18 for 4.5oz (at the 3oz price, the 4.5 would cost 12.50+6.25=18.75...)

Ok, nevermind, it IS a deal! lol

Saves you about $5. Ink is a shade cheaper, $.75 and then you get a pen. Not a fancy pen but still.

#LexingtonGray (let's DO this!) :D

Am putting in a personal plug. Must-try: Noodler's Navajo Turquoise, one of my all-time favorites. Yes, I want Lexington Gray as well. Even though I have thinned Noodler's Black to a gray shade that shades pretty well.

ahhhh i can't wait to get all my stuff!! i think Lex grey will be perfect but i got 54th manhattan too, just in case the pics don't do it justice. either way, they are both waterproof and i hope to make one of them my daily note-taking ink at work. <3

noodler's standard black? how does that look thinned out? is it grey, blue, green?

One of my favorites is Diamine Salamander. It's a lovely vegetable green but it plays tricks with my eyes and sometimes I think it's shading into a reddish brown. Of course it might be my eyes but it does it with many different pens and nibs.
