@sampanel

Thank you for the nice pics.

The cap really reminds me of the Jules Verne. The colour and also wave patern

Hope the Tolsoy cap isn't as heavy as the Verne cap.

Seems the Verne cap weighs multiples more than the rest of the pen.

So you were in a taxi one day and looked over and there was this briefcase thing sitting there in the back with you, and you took it with you and opened it up and it was this??? :)

And here are the photos for the 1868 version. The last two not taken with flash show the detail pattern of the cap :wub: :wub:

It would had been so nice if Montblanc had gotten this one right. Tolstoy is the first writer Montblanc has chosen in the past few years that I actually like. Oh well, the wait for Melville continues.

They couldn't grab you with the options of Proust, Poe, Wilde???

They are great writers, and I read their stuff...well, not Proust, but, I don't care for them enough to buy the pens. For that, it would need to be a Kerouac, Joyce, Melville, Tolstoy etc...That's the tough selling point about these pens, since I'm not collecting all of them, I would have to find both a writer I really like and a style I really like in one pen. That has only happened with the Hemingway, but not enough to pay the price that they currently go for.

I can make a wish for Gaddis or the Barthelme's.

I got the Proust and then read it all, took about 15 fresh starts over a decade before I systematically did it.

Goodness.

The Verne is a boat anchor when capped, haven't had the honour of goofing around with the other three....

Does anyone have a confirmed U.S price on this, any chance you think it will be readily available at boutiques around September 15th?

While in NYC on business, I stopped by the Madison Avenue boutique and saw the entire 3 piece set of Tolstoy! The hammered sterling is beautiful in person. They received 2 1868 editions and sold one while I was there. Unfortunately, the sales clerk's prices were all over the map (quoting a Blue Hour skeleton at $1,500!) so I didn't pressure very hard to get the list prices on the Tolstoy pieces. They had a catalog open to the 1868 page and I glimpsed the list price of $4,200. The 1868 has a wooden piston knob which is quite unique! Reminds me of the Humboldt (of which they had one of those as well!).

I had my Tolstoy to go with B nib today. The cap is some kind grey and silver plated barrel is special (although seen in Platinum). It is a pity that it is not made by silver. I also found the golden 1868 version looks good but a little bit overpriced.

The pen can be ordred on FPH at this time.

In order to appreciate the sweet, you must truly taste the bitter....

I placed my order for the Trio set this week. It will take a bit because I request the pen to get a nib exchange to A BB nib. Was told this was posible but we will see.
