Coming To You Live From Fly-Overland...

Hey everyone,

Found FPN while searching pics of stub nibbed pens. I'm fairly new to fountain pens, but looking to add to my meager collection. I blame my wife. Her friends started showing off their pens, and she got the bug, and then, of course, I had to try, too. So I bought us a couple Platinum Plaisirs, and a Preppy for our son. Those are nice; but she wanted a Lamy and a Noodler's flex, and I wanted a stub (thought I'd try the Monteverde 1.1mm), and those are pretty awesome. So...now we're looking at TWSBIs and Edisons and vintage pens (okay, that's just me) and I can't believe how many beautiful variations there can be on what it essentially a pointy stick with a leaky end. Who knew, right?!

Anyway, off to finish reading the Stub o'the Day thread!

Jack

Yes, but your airport is in Kentucky. :)

Welcome, Jack !

Personally, I don't collect meagers. Do they come in different colors ? :lticaptd:

Right ! It did begin with berry juice and a sharpened stick. What followed were great innovations to control the ink that leaks onto paper. I am fascinated by the genius.

You will read very credible cases of failure in the TWSBI fountain pen. You will, likewise, read of the excellent customer service, and remedies complains promptly. Personally, I use a TWSBI 540 and a Mini. I gave several as gifts in 2013, No complaints.

Write with joy.

Hi everybody!

Okay, so I wrote this down so I wouldn't forget anyone. Here goes.

TMK, Pakman, VirtuThe3rd, H1N, RMN, and Thomas (tbickiii): thanks for the warm welcome. Looking forward to many friendly conversations.

Wahl: Thanks, also for the welcome. Si no se importa que se pido, ¿es usted nativo de España? Siempre estoy tratando de mejorar mi español, y necesito mucha ayuda!

Fabienne: My thanks as well for your message. Is the image you cropped for your avatar from the 14th century? It looks familiar, but there's not quite enough context for me to place it. Would love to know more.

I am in the part of Fly-Overland that we lovingly (not!) call the Great White Tundra--Wisconsin. I have been to Cincinnati a number of times--a beautiful place. I am jealous of anywhere where Spring begins on time. :P

Sasha: Thanks also for your kind--and humorous--reply. I think we will get along famously.

If I do get a TWSBI, I will watch it like a hawk. Which I always wondered: does that mean watching it carefully and with sharp focus (e.g., with eyes like a hawk), or watching it like you think it's going to do something unacceptable, like eat your chickens? :lticaptd:

Anyhoo, great to meet you all.

Welcome to this forum!

I like your "pointy stick with a leaky end" line a lot. I, too, love stub nibs. 1.1 is my preferred stub altho I also enjoy double broad nibs (BB) Lamy makes a very nice 1.1 stub that you might want to try and an extra nib is pretty inexpensive.

Hi OCArt!

Thanks for the welcome. I think I read that pointy stick line somewhere, so maybe I should have credited that (not that I remember who or what or where, now. Oh, well).

1.1 is a nice size. We've picked up a ton of sample bottles of various ink brands and colors, and it's been fun to see how they respond to the wide nibs. I decided to try a 1.5, too, so I switched out the stock nib from a Jinhao X750 for a Goulet Pens 1.5 nib, which has been really sweet, in my admittedly limited opinion. I picked the X750 over the X450 because of the smooth section; I'm left-handed, so I'm leery of the triangular profile. If/when I decide to up my game, I will definitely think about those round profile Lamys, though. Thanks for the tip. (Pointer? Advice--that's the one. )

Nice to meet you!
