Opinions On White Pens, Would You Buy One?

A lot of good looking white pens! After looking through them all, I have to say the Pelican white and tortoise is now on my "someday" list. I have some serious lust for the m400 version. But the KOP Ivory Urushi is right there

I have a King of Pen—or two—but not in white urushi lacquer. They are nice pens with great nibs, but they are big. The Pelikan is also a very nice pen. So many pens, so little money . . . .

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Yes,

I like white pens. I find them aesthetically very pleasing and have no issues in buying them.

Nothing wrong with white pens. I just avoid inks that might stain and I take more care in flushing and cleaning.

Oh, you will like it, I have that too, currently inked with Diamine Asa Blue.

I need to think like VivienR. I too must mosey over and look at eBay.

I too, am eyeing the Pelikan M400 in white/tortoise. It's top of my wish list at the moment.

I really don't like the 'stripy' look of the other colours, but I'm hooked on the white one. If it hadn't been for the mixed reviews of the nibs, I 'd already have succumbed!

I always said I would never buy a white pen. The, one day, I came across a model (unique) made by a french craftsman, Thierry Testud, made of ivory galaith and maple burl. I could not resist.

I'm glad you reconsidered your silly rule. That's a beautiful pen.

Thank you Manalto. It is not a rule, it is just I don't really like white pens. But this one reminds me of the seaside and the cork floaters of fisherman's nets. that is why I got it. ;) And you are right, it is a beautiful pen.

You should get the Pelikan M400 Tortoise White! The striation of the honey-green tortise body and the gold accented white ends give it a light, elegant appearance that other Pelikan models don't quite have. This was the fountain pen that turned me on to the white fountain pens I had so abhorred before.

Don't let bad nib reviews deter you from a fountain pen purchase. There are negative reviews on nearly EVERY nib and pen model on this forum--had I heeded every bad review I read, I would not have any fountain pens to speak of.

I highly recommend the Pelikan M400 Tortoise White (getting harder to find) as well as the Sailor Professional Gear White with Pink Gold (will be going back into production in July/August).

I like the look of the Pelikan m205 and lay Safari in white.

+1 ! I just received a M600 Tortoise White after purchasing the M800 Brown previously. I have never really appreciated the Tortoise "effect" until receiving the white pen. I was indeed happy with the performance of the 800 BUT just felt the Tortoise was overpowered by the dark brown to be significantly distinctive. The difference is indeed "night & day" with the white. Although the pen is smaller it is equally favored because of the resulting appearance of the white body with Tortoise. My appreciation for the Pelikan pens is MUCH greater after receiving the white Tortoise. The nib is in fact nicer than the 800 because I was able to have an OBB & only able to have BB when I purchased the brown.

Mine was purchased from Regina Martini & I can certainly say I was happy with purchasing from her auction site, I had only purchased from her US Ebay auctions previously & this was equally pleasant. She was able to offer the "old" nib choice while other sites seem to have less choice. The usual disclaimers: I am not NOW or considering employment with nor related to Ms. Martini BUT really happy to finally see why so many people like these white Pelikans!

OK, OK... This enabling is costing me dear

haruka337 - You're swaying me nearer and nearer to buying my white/tortoise M400.

I have just seen them at Penbox.co.uk for £159 (£30-35 less than every other UK seller) and I am now on the verge of a purchase. Arghhhh! :) :) :)

I REALLY don't need any more pen stuff this month! It's still only 2 weeks since I bought a Parson's Essential and a Prera.

I bought a Parker Sonnet from Penbox, which needed a nib tune or replacement. I don't know which they did, but the service was good. (He didn't answer my emails, though, which made me a bit nervous. I had to phone to set my mind at rest.)

I love the Sailor too but the Pro Gear is too big for me. I prefer Sapporo size.

Well, an update:

I went ahead. I ordered an m400 in white/tortoise from Penbox. As my excitement grew, I pressed the final 'make payment now' button, and, OOOPS. Failure. Something about the payment system being set up incorrectly by the seller. That worried me, somewhat.

I will phone them up tomorrow, otherwise, I'll have to decide if I really want to pay the full RRP from a different store.

I (like Jar) have the Omas Biblioteque Nationale in a creamy ivory resin, a white Lamy

CP1 and a Pelikan M320 in ivory. I love the look of white/ivory pens and the look and feel of the Omas which is so velvety smooth. I try to avoid red and purple inks in the Pelikan and Omas due to fear of staining, although I had a bright purple ink in the Omas one time without problem. The Lamy is white enamel on metal and built like a tank.

I think white is an excellent choice and the Faber Castel pen you're looking at is awesome. Go for it!!

Edited to add Pelikan M320 photo and correct typos.

I'm quit amused by this thread how it's not only made me realise I needed a white pen. Which I've really enjoyed for the last week. It has helped persuade a few others!

Here is mine

I had the same thing happen to me several times when trying to order this FP online, and, always, the Pelikan M400 Tortoise White was out of stock. I finally purchased it from a seller who sold it for $77 more than any other vendor, but he was the only one that I contacted who actually had it. -_-

*Have you seen this Sailor Sapporo in stark white and gold trim? Or this one in ivory and gold trim? If you don't dig the gold trim, how about a Sailor Sapporo in egg shell white with rhodium trim? Oooooooooh... TAKE MAH MONEY, SAILOR!

Well I hope your phone order goes well!

*Edited to make make ya go broke. :P

Oooooo, and oooo again.

'Edited to make me broke' is right ;)

The eggshell/ rhodium Sapporo is gorgeous. I usually prefer rhodium trim, but not exclusively (hence the Pelikan) I haven't seen that Sapporo here in the UK. I'm also fancying a demonstrator Sapporo. My Pro Gear Slim II is currently my favourite pen....possibly until my M400 tortoise arrives.

YES - I phoned up and ordered the M400 white/tortoise, fine nib yesterday. It's hopefully being checked today for dispatch and arrival in another day or so.

Sooooo, I vowed not to buy any more FPs this year, or to sell one first. But I like all my pens, so I don't want to sell any :(
