Shawn - what MM diameter rod do you need for an M800 and M100 to start with. It would help me to know when shopping for materials.

Thank you. Great work as always!

M200 - .49" Ø 12.4mm

M600 - .50" Ø 12.7

M800 - .54" Ø 13.7

M1000 - .58" Ø 14.7

A tiny bit bigger is better, but that's the smallest I can start with for those models.

I'm really excited to see Shawn's pictures of the pen that is now on its way back to me. Here's a little bit of the back story:

I was mesmerized when I first caught up to this thread and saw the pictures of the blue lizard. I thought I just had to have one, so I went on a search for a donor 800, and my search was soon rewarded. But then I saw more pictures and decided to look at the huge variety of materials I didn't even realize were available.

It was one of those beautiful Autumn days when the sun was bright, the air cool, and the trees just starting to turn all those wonderful colors. Looking out the window in my Family Room, I saw my inspiration.

A little looking turned up jut the right material

and in a short while, Shawn shared the pictures of the result

For those contemplating taking the plunge, I can only say that Shawn was a pleasure to deal with, he made every step easy, and from the pictures I already can see I will be delighted when the mailman knocks a few days from now. The leaves are now brown and in piles on the ground, but those beautiful Autumn days will live on in the body of this pen.

Beautiful pen, and a fine "back story!"

Congratulations!

Wow! That is really beautiful!

I sure wish I had .... Wait a minute ... That is mine!

Way earlier in this topic, I mentioned I was going to buy a black M600 expressly for sending to Shawn for a new binde. Well, I did, and that's the result. Pretty spiffy, I'd say.

The Material is an Italian resin called "Amedeo." I assume the name was given after Montegrappa made a pen in this material as a tribute to Amedeo Modigliani.

It'll have to be an ebonite or acrylic. I'm using the last of my big celluloid for some m1000 pens this weekend.

Whoops - I misspoke. I do have some more of that brown and black celluloid.

Lucky dude with a gorgeous new pen! I once saw a few Edison pens that Brian made from a material somewhat similar in appearance and thought they were gorgeous. Even better on your Pelikan!
