Hello From New York City

Hello:

I recently dug three fountain pens out of the back of my closet. One worked fine but the other two will require sac replacement. I've bumbled around the richardspens.com website and it looks as if I can handle this task as I'm not working with anything particularly valuable. Is there a FAQ for this forum that covers sac replacement so I don't waste people's time posting questions that have long since been answered? Also when dealing with multiple questions about multiple pens is it appropriate to ask them in a clump or is it preferred that one restrict oneself to a single pen at a time (or even a single question)?

This can go one of three ways: I can fix the two pens and quietly fade away, I can fail miserably and give up, or I can become pathetically addicted and start spending vast amounts of time collecting and refurbishing fountain pens. One never knows.

Thanks,

Chouffleur

(1) The Esterbrook forum has a good description of replacing a sac. (I think...) Lever-fillers are mostly all alike. There are some odd ones, such as the "visulated" lever filler I once had. Mistook the spot where I should grab the section. Only other tricky things:

(2) Eversharp Skylines have become brittle over the last 70 years. Use care.

(3) Most sections are "friction fit", so you just wiggle them out. Sometimes people seal the section with shellac.

(4) I never worry about breather-tubes. Skylines have them, but they fill OK -- not perfect but OK -- without it.

Oh: check the "clubs" sun forum for the Big Apple Pen Club. Usually meets the first Thursday of each month. People are helpful...we will "help" you decide to buy extra fountain pens, for example.

Thanks for the tips, especially about the pen club. I'm so Internet-focused that it didn't occur to me that there actual, you know, humans with the same interests in my area. ;-)
