My two have no odor at all. The price is unbelievable considering the quality. I'm organizing them with pens (trays from Gary Lehrer), inks and repair supplies (shellac, talc, brass shims, nibs, etc.) I'll probably place them on two shelves of my library bookcase.

Thanks again to PenBrute for this great heads up. Couldn't be happier with this product.

Ordered mine today during lunch.

My boss walked by, saw what I was ordering, looked at the price and went to his desk to order one for himself. He's going to use it to store flies, hooks and the likes (he fly fishes).

Mine is airing out as there's a definite odor of glue and varnish. Absolutely gorgeous and I'm forever grateful for the notice that these were available. Thank you! :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1:

I second that Ghost Plane!! :notworthy1: :notworthy1:

And as usual, Canada gets the sh*t end of the stick...not available here.

Agreed we get shafted with stuff like this Amazon.com versus Amazon.ca frustrates me on a regular basis. However, depending on where you live and how close you are to the border you can still make things work. I am in Ottawa, and there is a UPS about an hour away across the border in Ogdensburg that lets you use their address as yours and only charge you $5. They will hold if for a week, if you take longer they charge $5 extra/week. I know people order tires and send them there all the time, granted large items like tires cost more.

I just pulled the trigger on one, I could not help myself. I really thought the non-member fee would be more or at least make you pay the shipping nope, got the free shipping and only a $2 surcharge.

P.S. Thank you penbrute for letting us know about this!

I agree that Canada often gets the short end of the stick in these situations. OTOH, y'all get Tim Horton's doughnuts and we don't, so we have to get our revenge somehow. ;)

Close enough to the border and you too can get Tim Hortons. When I lived in Michigan I used to have lunch at a combination Wendy's/Tim Hortons. So, after having your hamburger you could get a doughnut to put that final nail in the coffin of your health. Down here we're inundated with Krispy Kreme. Just say, not a fan.

I bought one too, but they're now on back order.

Is yours on back order? I did not see that so I must have just squeeked in. It has not gone to their "fulfilment" center so hopefully it is still going through and going to get held up.

Yes, mine is on back order. Costco sends you a notice, before you're able place the order, warning you that the item is on back order. That's OK; I don't have a pen-storage emergency. Come to think of it, I do! Come on, Costco, hurry up!

Thank you for posting about this chest. I am not a Cosco member and believed it was for members only. Glad I waited and

took advantage of free shipping and $2 charge for non-member. Looking forward to receiving, airing out and then filling it

up! Mine has shipped and will arrive next week.

Hey, wait a minute. Why are they on back order for me? This is not helping my paranoid tendencies. Maybe it's because I'm in the densely-populated northeast US?

Mine was supposed to arrive yesterday, but according to UPS, "a late UPS trailer" caused it to be delayed, and they're were "adjusting plans" to deliver my package for a couple of days. Last I knew it left San Pablo, CA. Just checked and saw the magic words. "Out for delivery"!

You Californians have all the luck. Enjoy the chest, let us know what you think and of any modifications you make.

I'll just wait.

My(and the boss's) packages are on route to be delivered at work shortly. Arriving MUCH sooner than anticipated (California).

I'm actually in North Carolina. It magically moved from California to Greensboro, NC without hitting anything in between. I'll definitely give my opinion once I see it.

Modifications... I've been thinking, but will have to see it first....

If it makes you feel better mine still just says order received.

Just arrived!

As some have stated, the box is a bit bigger than one might figure, even with knowing the dimensions beforehand. The depth of the item isn't the issue, it's the width, but that's more of a pro than a con. There is varnish smell (already documented on this thread) to the boxes and we're currently airing both out.

For the price, these boxes are very well made and generously sized. The boss and I are pleased!

Costco seems to take about 24 hours to process the order before it ships: ordered mid-day Wednesday, shipped by UPS Ground (for free) by mid-day Thursday and delivered before noon today. Pretty quick!
