Dostoevsky V Woolf

Recommended Posts

Hi aficionados, how would you compare these two WEs? Both are obviously black, one with a rippled pattern, the other etched, and both have a synthetic stone in the clip, but are they quite different in feel and, for want of a better word, mood?

I have a Woolf, and am not totally blown away by it, although it's redeemed by its lovely nib. Is that likely to mean I'd be underwhelmed by the Dostoevsky too (not that it's a possibility at the moment .... )?

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

The D is longer, lighter and easier in the hand for those of us who don't like tiny pens. Less texture, more a normal size. Sold both mine awhile back when I was scrounging a downpayment on a house. Don't miss the Woolf. Do miss the D.

The Dostoevsky has an ink window, which is nice.

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

Woolf.

Exciting.

Excellent weight and balance (I never post).

Amazing and unique in regards to shape and texture.

Very innovative, evocative and emboldened design.

Such a pleasure to use.

I recall from years ago a Toronto WE collector weighed all the WE pens, and the Dostevsky came out on top as the most unladen of them all.

Interesting replies, thank you! I would not have envisaged it as being so light .....

I don't have the weights to hand currently but I think the Dostoevsky is the lightest pen in the series, if it's not then there is only a gram or two in it. I'm not a great fan of really light pens.

I personally like the shape of the Barrel of the Woolf and the ribbed texture. It's quite unique in the series. This pen definitely surprised me, it was one I had to buy in order to complete the set, I therefore bought it reluctantly but having got it my impressions immediately changed.

Personal preference really. I've always loved the D's ergonomics, elegant styling and guilloche pattern, so I bought one.

I held a fellow FPNer's W. It's quite nice too. I especially like the shape and texture. It isn't as traditional as the D.
