Neon Lime - Lamy

Lamy doesn't need introduction on this board. However as I enjoy writing introductions, here we go. Lamy was created by Josef Lamy who was a German export and branch manager for Parker until 1930, when Parker left the German market due to unsuccessful sales of its Duofold.

Lamy started his own company by acquiring the pen manufacturer Orthos Füllfederhalter-Fabrik producing celluloid pens. For quite few years they were selling conservative looking pens stylised after Pelinan and Montblanc pens.

However in 1966 they invited industrial designer Gerd A. Müller to create their new flagship product - Lamy 2000, a classic Bauhaus-inspired design that has remained in production ever since 1966 with no significant change. This pen set the tone for all Lamys to come: forward-looking, innovative design, excellent quality and writing performance. Lamy 2000 is one of my all - time favourite pens. With time I even came to like Lamy Al-Star that looked like an ugly duckling for me when I first saw it.

Basically I love their pens. However I wasn't so fond of their inks. They're not bad, they're sold in practical and functional bottle yet the colors really aren't mesmerizing. ANyway the inks are sold in bottle that provides a roll of blotter tape used to clean the pen after filling, or to blot writing. It is specially shaped with a wide neck and a basin to collect ink to aid filling when close to empty.

They can also be purchased in cartridges.

It seems that lately Lamy came to conclusion they can make money on special edition inks that are introduced together with limited edition Al-Stars and Safaris. That's good, especially that new colors (Copper Orange and Neon Lime) stand out from their rather conservative and - let's face it - boring ink line-up.

Neon Lime is LE ink - a nasty companion of LE Lamy Safari Neon Lime. The problem with this ink is it's not made for writing but for marking. The other thing is it's illegible and really, really ugly

My neonlime Safari and neonlime ink arrived today.

I really like the snappy color of the pen, but there's a problem with the ink. More correctly, the problem is with my aging eye's. I can see the ink on the paper, but can't read what I have written. Age has it's rewards, but has pitfalls as well. So far I have tried adding a bit of Lamy green ink to the neonlime (to the converter via syringe), and plan to add a bit more a little later. I'm hoping that as it gets darker, I'll more easily be able to see it.

Has anybody else run into this, or am I just.....special......?

Hmmm - I still haven't tried Catfish. Luminous is more saturated.

The same happens to me. I see the bright colour, but I can't read the words. And I don't think it's because of my age.

This is what most people consider a "Highlighter" ink.... not meant for writing, but only for highlighting text.

 

When swabbed is totally fluorescent... just like a highlighter.

I gave in to my inner kid wanting the Lamy Neon Green pen and ink, too, and I love the ink! True, it's not a letter-writing ink, because it's hard to read. But it's a fine highlighter. I also got a broad nib for the Lamy, to better show the ink. I use it for adding pizzazz to a page, and for highlighting. I love the Lamy bottles, too. Nice to use.

For the sake of completeness, I bought a pack of Neon Lime cartridges, but I don't know when I will ever use them.

Luminous can be used for actual writing, but it's a pain to clean.

I bought these with high hopes before seeing any reviews, I have ended up mixing them at a 1:1 ratio with the lamy blue cartridges we get with the pens, it gives an acceptable green.

 

Neon Coral and Copper Orange were such nice colours, they had to mess up somewhere.

COOL!!!!..... I have Noodlers' Golden Pig (totally fluorescent).. and this ink looked similar.. So, I did guess it was fluorescent. (post #11 above)
