Blue Hour Mb Pens

This is a STUNNINGLY beautiful pen. It is quite a bit out of my ability to obtain it, which honestly makes it difficult to look at.

Thank you everyone for the input and pictures of these pens! I just came across them today on Montblanc's site and am deciding which model to purchase. It appears they have really been busy making MANY new models and reinventing old ones too! I also like where they are going with the new lower prices :D I am a bit confused though about this "midsize" size. I had always thought that was the older name before "Legrand." In the last picture, it also looks like a Legrand pen to me. So is there a third size between Classique and Legrand?

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

In Europe we do not use the "Legrand" or "Classique" names... I think those words are used to mislead US customers that Montblanc is a french brand.

144 and 145 are both midsize, 146 is a bigger midsize, 149 is oversize... 114 is the smallest Meisterstück

I don't know if it is to mislead us as much as to add some French chic to their image. MB has definitely foisted these marketing terms upon us over the years, possibly to appeal to a larger status-oriented market rather than to a smaller coterie of fountain-pen lovers. However, with the "pen people" I know, the number system is used in discussion. The names have little descriptive value and are apt to change model (as with the Classique from 144 to 145), leading to confusion. The number system is imho far better at identifying the pens.

Here in Singapore the term 'Le Grand' and 'Classique' are also used but for me I've never mistook MB for a French brand as I knew it was German all the way.

So then I guess the question would be what is the correlating number used for "midsize"? I know most BP and RB come in Classique which is equivalent to the 144 size. I thought the next size up for BP and RB was Legrand which I thought was equivalent to the 146. Now there is a 145 which is the new Classique FP and is thicker than the BP or RB Classique. So is the Midsize maybe the BP equivalent to the 145 FP? That would make sense to me although it seems to be a rare size. I personally love the Legrand size for a BP pen but understand that many Solitaire models would be uncomfortably heavy in a Legrand size with all of that metal and lacquer. So maybe the Midsize is a good compromise!

Nice pens! Too bad Mb keeps refusing in aplying the colors and patterns of everything but the 149.

I always felt the same way too. But I also realized that they have experience in making and testing (usually) these models. I think people would be unhappy with the unusable weight of a 149 made of metal such as the Solitaire models.

I dare to say I thought MB was French for a while before I got into pens.... And it took me a long time to get the word Meisterstuck into my vocabulary once I was! I guess I was a victim of their marketing!! I find the numbers much easier now I'm interested in several pens, but if I were walking into a store to buy my one pen back in the day, I would haven gotten more excited dropping the cash on a "clasique" than a "144". Really love the Le Grand size or what the 146 FP is currently. But I only have the BP. Here's mine comparing to the Heritage 1912.

I feel the same way! I also could never understand why the mixing of the two... Meisterstück Doué Classique Ballpoint...? Let's try keeping to one language per model please :P

Although the sounds of the Germanic language don't always flow well with the French language, I can understand wanting to use a more "elegant-sounding" language for such a brand.

Does anybody know the best place to buy the Le Grand fountain pen version of the Blue Hour? FPH are doing their usual 10% off but that's the best I've seen so far. I do miss WorldLux!! :crybaby:

Contact Dennis at La Couronne du Comte or Joost at Appelbloom. Both are in the Netherlands and have offered my good value on new MB pens.

I know the Blue Hour pens are based on the special "Blue Hour" ink, but is there some significance to the term Blue Hour?

Here are a couple of pictures I snapped before the pens were shipped to the buyer. I fell in love and have already ordered another set hahaha! It seems to be the same guilloché pattern that is offered on the 90 Years Solitaire pens, except with a smooth surface, instead of rigid. The midsize is, in my opinion, the size all pens should be offered in. It fits perfectly in a man's hand. I view classique as being too small and hard to grip. The LeGrand can sometime just look ludicrous because of its sheer cartoon-ish size. The midsize, though, is absolutely a 10/10!

Ok, I'm intrigued now. These are beautiful. Thanks for sharing these pics. Ok, I'm new to MB, so what numbering would the mid-sized be classified as? I have a 146 - is it smaller or larger than it?

I also am in love with the Blue Hour Twilight Blue ink. Definitely going to have to try and find some in Canada.

Personally I prefer Meisterstück to Chef d' Oeuvre, also I prefer the old 3 digits , gives you tier, filling mechanism, nib size and era of building. Of course that dates from a time MB wasn't the luxury brand it is now. Anyhow as long as they keep their fingers of good old 149, no problemo for me.

Very elegant looking pen I really like the design.

Don't know if there is any connection but Guerlain's perfume L'Heure Bleue (the blue hour) is legendary. It was created in 1912 to evoke the twilight hour at the end of the day and is still in production today.

I would say the Mid-sized ballpoint is very close to being the same thickness as the 146, but it is slightly longer since it does not have the twist-off cap like a 146 has. It is quite lovely and fits my hand perfectly! I ordered every piece in the line....I love them that much haha!

It is named after the time in the evening that most of us call "Dusk", in which the whole world appears to be blue. In some places, this time of the day is referred to as the "Blue Hour". The color and design of the pen is modeled after the Blue Hour :)

I really like the BP. I will be getting the heritage RB when it appears. it looks like the Blue Hour will also go on the list.
