Pelikan Hubs 2015

So, .... gearing up for the HUB event tomorrow. Curious to know from those of you who plan to attend these events:

What do you hope to get out of this?

  • Are you hoping to make connections with like minded pen nuts?
  • hoping to to see and get hands on a Pelikan model or models you have not seen 'in the flesh' before?
  • Try out Pens? Try out inks or papers?
  • Other thoughts on your take aways?

Some of you attended these affairs last year, what sticks in your mind as the most useful aspect of participating? I ask not because I am trying to sort out why I would go, but what if anything I can do to add value for others. My Pel collection is pretty meager compared to some, but since my pens are for writing I plan to bring a number of pens which I enjoy writing with, many of which have had nib customizations. My thinking is that deciding whether or not to have a nib ground is a serious and challenging decision if you have not used such a nib before (don't ask how I know this), and having a chance to use one might be helpful. But tell us, what else are you hoping to gain from attending?

As a lefty I can't tell you how appreciative I am that you're bringing some of your customized nibs.

I lurk in several brand forums and I always wonder what is the tipping point that makes the customization the right decision. I've seen people mention the newer Pelikan nibs might be a good candidate. I would be afraid to customize a vintage pen. :)

Looking forward to seeing your pens tonight~!

I'm going for a couple reasons. The obvious is to have a look at and possibly to try Pelikans that I haven't seen in person before. I'm also interested in comparing my M400 (m) to others since I feel it writes a far to heavy line. Maybe it's just how they are, but I would like to compare. Of course I'm hoping to try out some new inks as well!

I enjoy meeting other pen people.

And I like to see and try different pens, nibs, inks...

I've learned that I tend to like particular characteristics in pens and nibs, but can still be surprised.

I tend to like the older flexy nibs or the modern stubs on the Pelikans. And I've yet to meet a nibmeister grind I didn't like.

That testing helped me buy a couple of pens I wouldn't have considered, but have really enjoyed. And to decide against a few pens I wouldn't have kept.

I've also enjoyed trying and trading inks. And look forward to trying the Pelikan line.

See you at Hub PDX tonight.

It was so much fun! Beautiful common and uncommon pens and very interesting and entertaining people.

Thanks to Pelikan, the Dallas Hubmaster and the Doubletree Inn for a great time.

Life's too short to use crappy pens.  -carlos.q

ScienceChick, I suspect that you and I posted in the wrong place, initially, over on the Hub announcement page; but I shall re-iterate here what I wrote there.

Lovely evening, making new friends, and while Boston's Hub proved to be smaller than anticipated (couple of "no-shows"), it was so worthwhile -- all thanks to our Hubmistress, Carolyn. (Oooh, those new inks! I had never tried any of the Edelsteins previously...and I am rather impressed)

It looked like I was going to miss out as I had a 'must attend' work assignment up north. But just yesterday that meeting was CANCELLED so now I have no excuse for not attending @ PDX. I will porbably go early and stop by one of my favorite Koi dealers in Ridgefield, a little place along the way to Portland.

Not sure what to expect: A gaggle of geeks oggling Pelikans (sounds almost naughty).

Thank you for attending and bringing your gorgeous collection. You were one of the highlights of the evening! Thank you so much for letting us try your pens!! It was wonderful to see you and your pens so swamped.

The Pittsburgh Hub was small, but fun -- I'm always happy to be geeking about pens and inks. Several people I hadn't met before, who are now signed up for the Steel City Nibs mailing list. The Hubmaster, Muhammed, took photos of people's pens, and my little gold Pelikan pen stand, which I dubbed "Skippy" for some reason while I was packing up to go. Very excited about getting to try Edelstein Amethyst -- even thought I don't really have any pens that take International Standard cartridges :( (oh well, I can probably dump the contents into a vial and fill one of my flock from there...).

I had a ton of fun at our Portland Hub. It was great to see everyone, try some fun inks, and see some beautiful Pelikans. Thank you to Pelikan and our wonderful Hub master for making it possible!

New York City almost got kicked out of the venue by security, but we outsmarted them in the end. We had about half the registered folks attend (17 people)

We had a cheerful group in Philadelphia, geeking out over pens and ink and just getting to know one another. Shout out to Joshua for finding such a great venue and hosting--not an easy thing to manage on the eve of the Pope's visit! And thanks to Pelikan for the goodies!

I had a great time at the Portland Hub. I admit I didn't have much of an idea of what to expect but it turned out to be an evening filled with pleasant company and lovely pens. Not so big that it was impersonal, yet big enough that there was plenty to see and people to meet and mix with that the evening never dragged, Hats off to fireant for doing such a great job of putting on the event. I would certainly do it again.

The Portland Hub, Fireant and all her posse deserve a huge round of applause!

The samples and inks and paper and the awesome pens that showed up.

Thank you, Pelikan! I'm so in love with the amethyst! And the pen holder - that was unexpected and I'll forever be grateful!

It was a good time! I really loved the ink and paper samples; what a difference a certain paper can make in one ink. Edited by writetome

Thanks to all who turned up in London (UK), even if it was only about a third of those who had registered. It was good to meet new people, try some new inks and papers and have a good old natter.

Those that didn't turn up missed out on a very enjoyable event with nice people to chat with and plenty of great looking pens to drool over.

Thanks for organising the London UK event and look forward to seeing you next week at the London Show :)

It was a good time! I really loved the paper samples (and the ink samples!!) because I realized what a difference a certain paper can make in one ink. Amazing difference!

I was shocked with one custom pen of Dr. Codfish's. It was a 15 degree oblique and I really didn't like the feedback when writing with it on Tomoe then I tried the hp laserjet paper that Conib sent us and I was stunned, it felt so smooth on that paper.
