Pelikan Hubs 2015

The mystery deepens. Here are some possibilities:

1. Each location will have a Pelikan executive in attendance, who will jump out of a cake nude at 6:45. Don't be late.

2. The swag will include a bucket of friend pelican (tastes like chicken), angering the host restaurateur.

3. The swag will include a bottle of Rémy Martin Louis III, endangering the restaurant's liquor license.

I'm sure you guys can come up with some others.

I'm starting to understand better why you and Cindy are friends, hahaha! (Can hardly wait to me you!)

#1 and #3 please. Note: Love swag, but EVERYTHING tastes like chicken!

- a live pelican at every Hub

- a game of nude Pin the Beak on the Pelican with the winner receiving the M800 or M1000 of their choice

Keep your eye on the prizel!! :yikes:

Here's another great game for the Hub: instead of bobbing for apples, everybody puts on fake pelican beaks and bobs for oak galls.

Guess you're bringing supplies.... :D

The curiosity level has ramped up to 1M!!! This Mystery Meeting issue is intriguing.

So, what's your point?

My Swag, like alligator, does not taste like chicken.

As side note-have you ever eaten at Papdeauxs? They were in SA TX and Houston but I figured they spread your way at some point.

Sorry. Lucky you, you can go there for some alligator tail (/shudder). Alas no Pappadeaux or any of it's incarnations here in PDX.

Received an e-mail from the Singapore Hubmaster that they will be turning away any unregistered guests for crowd control and to ensure adequate supplies of consumables, edible and otherwise. Given that 50-odd people have registered for Singapore and how fast news travels by word of mouth alone around the place, I'm not surprised.

Not sure how much this will pertain to the other global hubs but thought I'd share this information.

That's why the venue is not supposed to be publicly announced ahead of the event. Not that we wouldn't like to take all comers but it's a limited amount of resources and reservations have been made for x number of people. It's been difficult this year to find venues that can accommodate the increased interest in the Hubs.

And why I also explained to those attending London (UK) that the venue has a limited capacity and therefore please don't bring anyone without checking with me first. I have been able to accommodate the two that managed to sign themselves up for London, Ontario, but that's it now. If you aren't already on my list, sorry, you won't be able to join us on the night.

Only one week to go - looking forward to attending the London (UK) hub :)

I'm sure it will be a good evening - I'm hoping that there may be some people with more unusual, limited edition and vintage Pelikans for us to feast our eyes on.

It looked like I was going to miss out as I had a 'must attend' work assignment up north. But just yesterday that meeting was CANCELLED so now I have no excuse for not attending @ PDX. I will porbably go early and stop by one of my favorite Koi dealers in Ridgefield, a little place along the way to Portland.

Not sure what to expect: A gaggle of geeks oggling Pelikans (sounds almost naughty).

Oh, now you're going to make me have to dig out my book on venery terms to find out what a group of pelicans is traditionally called (e.g., a pride of lions, a pod of whales, a murder of crows...). But unfortunately, that's not happening till the beginning of next week....

Technically, it's a pod of Pelicans.

Huh. Who knew.

Well, I guess getting them to issue a pink M400 would be *my* white whale....

So, .... gearing up for the HUB event tomorrow. Curious to know from those of you who plan to attend these events:

What do you hope to get out of this?

  • Are you hoping to make connections with like minded pen nuts?
  • hoping to to see and get hands on a Pelikan model or models you have not seen 'in the flesh' before?
  • Try out Pens? Try out inks or papers?
  • Other thoughts on your take aways?

Some of you attended these affairs last year, what sticks in your mind as the most useful aspect of participating? I ask not because I am trying to sort out why I would go, but what if anything I can do to add value for others. My Pel collection is pretty meager compared to some, but since my pens are for writing I plan to bring a number of pens which I enjoy writing with, many of which have had nib customizations. My thinking is that deciding whether or not to have a nib ground is a serious and challenging decision if you have not used such a nib before (don't ask how I know this), and having a chance to use one might be helpful. But tell us, what else are you hoping to gain from attending?

Hi, this will be my first time, but definitely hoping to see some Pelikans I haven't come across before, and perhaps try out some inks, pens and paper, probably in that order, depending on the pens! It will be nice to meet some new people, but I've always felt a bit intimidated at pen shows in the past - this format will make it easier, I'm hoping.

I plan to take some of my more interesting models to return the favour.

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

I'm ready to check out the larger Pelikans compared to my m205. Then look at all the new papers and inks.

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow

For me, the answer to all of the above questions you pose is "Yes!" I'm really hoping to see if the pen I tried at the Commonwealth Show last weekend really was an M600, in a setting where I have my M400 and M200s to hand as a comparison. As for questions one and three, absolutely! That's the fun part.

As for the takeaways, I'm more ambivalent. I didn't sign up last year, so I don't have a frame of reference for comparison. I've gotten some sort of "swag" at each of the 3 years I've been to DCSS; this year I've actually tried the inks (the other two years I didn't, because they were black inks, and I'm not much for black...).

Ooh, can't wait to see them shortly.

Nor to distribute some of the swag I have been carrying around at work all day - I'm sure my arms have stretched ...
