I was contacted by the hub master for Chile. We will be a small bunch of attendants, so probably a nice chance to learn from the experts!

I was wrong about the location of the Dallas Hub, apparently a location has yet to be determined.

 

I'd love to see one (or more!) of the raden Pelikans in person.

I'm planning to bring the following pens:

 

A beautiful vintage 101 I bought from Osman Sümer at the DC show.

A mint and uninked M1050, black with vermeil cap, purchased from sumgai in Singapore.

An M900 Toledo, one of the original numbered limited edition series.

 

I also have a brown striped M400, a Levenger special from several years ago, if anyone wants to see it.

*Still* no info about the Pittsburgh Hub. At least nine people are signed up for it (I just checked Pelikan's website). I have contacted Pelikan asking for info because I haven't heard anything as yet from either them or from whoever the Pittsburgh Hubmaster is -- and it's already September 3rd.

I need details because the Ligonier Highland Games are that weekend and a friend of mine always coordinates stuff for the Carnegie-Mellon pavilion (she's very active in alumni stuff and my husband also went to CMU); she has asked us to bake a bunch of shortbread for it. Plus, in past years we have stayed over Friday and Saturday night with friends of hers who live closer to the site, rather than get up at the crack of dawn to drive out to Westmoreland County. So I'm juggling that *and* the Hub....

You should have heard by now. I'm in contact with a bunch of the hub masters in the country but Pittsburgh isn't one of them. Definitely contact Pelikan and go from there. An acquaintenace had a similiar issue with Minneapolis and it turns out the registration had been an issue. I was able to help with that one. Hopefully Pelikan can straighten it out for you. I'll see if I can track down the Pittsburgh hub master via some back channels.

No, the way my mailer works I see anything that goes into the bulk mail file with a pointer to show how many messages are there.

After getting the automated response I did hear back later today from someone at Charpak, who forwarded my query to someone directly at Pelikan in Germany (the woman from Charpak said that the Hubs are being run directly by Pelikan). Hopefully I will hear more in the next day or two....

Well as the London (UK) hub master I echo the comments of those who pointed out that without a budget it is really hard to find a venue large enough for two dozen people! But the venue is organised, and hose signed up for London have heard from me.

 

To whet your appetites further, the goodies have arrived and will be distributed on the night.

 

I'm looking forward to meeting some more people, and seeing some more pens. I'll be bringing both m Pelikans, neither of which is anything "special". But ooh yes, I'd love to see a Polar Lights in the flesh.

For Hubmasters in the U.S. that are having problems finding a location: With the assurance that drinks and at least some meals will be purchased, most decent-sized restaurants have a room or area that can set aside for large gatherings, often for no cost. Since the meeting time is 6:30 p.m., I would expect most attendees will be glad of dinner if it's available.

It's turned out there are other factors which make many potential venues, including most restaurants, somewhat problematic for hosting this year's Hub. I'm sorry that I can't be more explicit at this point but it may become more obvious at 6:30pm on Sept. 25.

The mystery deepens. Here are some possibilities:

 

1. Each location will have a Pelikan executive in attendance, who will jump out of a cake nude at 6:45. Don't be late.

 

2. The swag will include a bucket of friend pelican (tastes like chicken), angering the host restaurateur.

 

3. The swag will include a bottle of Rémy Martin Louis III, endangering the restaurant's liquor license.

 

I'm sure you guys can come up with some others.

It's possible that you could read between the lines of your Hub jockey's welcome message and figure it out, though. At least, the Seattle attendees might be able to.

Here's another great game for the Hub: instead of bobbing for apples, everybody puts on fake pelican beaks and bobs for oak galls.

Unfortunately, not the case in London, UK. It's a Friday evening, which is the traditional evening for work related functions. Therefore, unless I could guarantee a (in my opinion very large) minimum spend on drinks or food (I can't), most places wnat an upfront fee to reserve a space.

 

I have managed to find somewhere, but if the numbers keep growing as they did between last year and this, Pelikan may have to rethink the strategy of meeting on a Friday evening.
