What Are Your Favorite Ink Bottles?

I like the old Skrip inkwell bottles and the Pilot bottles with the plastic inserts. Levenger and Lamy bottles also have the inserts like Pilot. The one I really hate is the S. T. Dupont bottle. I love the ink but the bottle is horrible. Dupont makes some pens with very large nibs, so I can only get about 3 fills before the ink level in the bottle drops to the point where I can't even get another fill. And just try pouring with that huge mouth. :wallbash:

I have a love hate relationship with the Noodler's bottles. I hate that they are boring. I love that they are functional.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My favorite ink bottles. From left to right: Mont Blanc Pink Ink in 30ml bottle; Levenger Blue Bahama; Monteverde Purple; Nostalgic Impressions Purple in large apothecary bottle.

Mont Blanc Pink is my nicest one; a weighty glass that adds a feeling of significance to it.

Levenger is the most practical and I just love the shape of the bottle. The plastic lid feels cheap though.

Monteverde has a nice wide opening and a unique yet practical design. I am only half way through this bottle so we will see how it does towards the end. I will probably need to use a syringe to get the last drops out.

Nostalgic Impressions bottle is completely impractical for anything other than my glass dip pen. But it is utterly gorgeous so I love it for the appearance alone.

Also, I love Herbin & Diamine regular glass bottles (30ml and 80ml respectively).

This is why:

The Herbin bottles are perfect to hold the 5ml sample vials. The Diamine are perfect for cartridges and converters (inside an empty vial). They are so useful and in my opinion beautiful. I love these bottles! If you have some you don't want, send them my way! I will gladly take them! lol ;)

One bottle I would LOVE to own is the Sailor Bung Box vase like bottles, they are exquisitely lovely!!!

I think the Sailor tall bottles pretty in photos, less so in real life.

Oh? Why are they less pretty in real life? I have only seen photos so I would like to hear other's impressions of the bottles in person.

The cap is cheap white plastic and the printing is very poor. The shape and the glass bottle itself is nice, though. I guess I just thought they would be really special like the Herbin 1670 bottles, but they are just decent glass bottles.

Do you mean the printing on the label is poor?

That is kinda -meh- for me. If I hate the label I can always just peel it off.

I agree that the cheap plastic cap is not appealing. I do love those Mont Blanc caps!

But the vase shape is so pretty in itself! (At least from photos)

I love the look and functionality of Akkerman bottles and Waterman bottles. I like that Noodler's is using inexpensive bottles (and I like that they're rectangular, at least the 3 oz. ones for purposes of shelf space) -- but I *don't* like that it's hard to see how far down the ink supply is because of the labels going most of the way around the bottle in many occasions; the 4-1/2 oz. bottles have the eyedropper, which is good because they're too hard to fill from otherwise. I don't seem to have quite the problem with Sailor bottles as some people do, because the few I have have the inkwell insert. The Diamine bottles remind me somewhat of the vintage Quink bottles I have.

I really think that the Montblanc "shoe" bottles are ugly. They may be functional, but they're ugly. Visconti bottles look really top heavy and tippy.

The J Herbin 1670 and Iroshihzuku bottles are pretty, but I think they only add to the cost of the ink without adding anything to the ink itself.

Private Reserve bottles are functional (and I like the wide mouth) but they're sort of boring.... Modern Quink and Pelikan bottles just sort of, well, are "there".... So I guess they count as boring as well.

I think the labels are made by the stores themselves.

Thanks for posting pics, this helps as I've not seen any of these before!

I have 3 criterias for bottle favorites:
1. Must be able to fill large pens with bigger nibs
2. Must be able to fill short pens (ex: vac-fill tuckaway)
3. Must look nice

My favorites that meet the 3:
-MB shoe (new and old) does it well and can get the last drop
-MB new LE square bottles, they slope on 1 side to make it functional (almost like half part of the shoe)
-Levenger

-Twsbi Diamond

runner up:
-Waterman and Iroshizuku almost made it except for #2

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing

I like fancy bottles so the Caran d'ache Chromatics and Montblanc bottles are nice!

Yea, the cap is cheap, the bottle is top heavy (kind of scary for that expensive of an ink), the label is not wonderful, the box is meh.
