Hi Rita - if you don't already have one, i recommend that you get a Pilot Parallel pen either 2.4 or 3.8 to start. One pen is only about $8.00.

Enjoy.

Thank you Maurizio. I managed to get my hands on two Reform piston fillers with 1.9 and 2.4 nib.

Will try the 2.4 first and then get the Pilot.

Thanks again!

I managed to find one of those Reform piston-fillers, a roughly 2.4 nib, here tucked away in an art supply shop. A very nice pen and fairly rare here. I jumped on it immediately even though I didn't like the price. I also use that to practice calligraphy with.

Here is an online guideline generator I found recently. It has presets for all the standard Pilot Parallel sizes plus others. It's pretty useful but what I don't like is that there's seems to be no way to turn off the slanted lines. I've rarely practiced with these because I think they're a crutch that doesn't help ME develop my hand skills. Others however may find them useful.

Found the original source!

I finally located the original source of these guidelines. I don't know the blogger but she or he is the one who deserves the credit for creating and then posting to all these guidelines. All I did was pass them on to some folks here.
