Allied Forces Germany- Framerica / De Atramentis Wilhelm 2 - Waterman Havana

You read the title and think.... What a silly pillock that Morbus Curiositas is :headsmack: There is no country named Framerica...

...Well you are partially right.... There isno country named Framerica :) ...

But Waterman was founded in America and is now produced in France

(l' Homme d'eau???) and is part of the American Newell Rubberdoll company...

Who cares..... Let's role!

De Atramentis Wilhelm 2 - Waterman

I did a review of De Atramentis Wilhelm 2 yesterday and had a déjà vu...

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Waterman%20Havana/colour%20comp%20fpn_zps6ygn81yv.jpg

Well don't know but I see similarities... But maybe I need new glasses or even worse I need to see a neurologist because I have a loose contact (er eh a new one ;) ) that interferes my cognition....

Maybe you could help here.... will insert some side to side comparisons here and leave the judgment upto you....In the end you may decide...

Blow my nose with ink comparison

Ink Vomitus comparison

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Waterman%20Havana/Havana%20WH2%20vomit%20comparison_zpsg1qlvgiq.jpg

Both inks have a red brown volour. In daylight the Wilhelm 2 has a bit more (wine?) red and Havana tends to a rust brown, a bit darker than ordinary iron rust though.

But that is in larger "surfaces" like above.... How is that in written text....

Let's see

Handwritten text comparisons

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Waterman%20Havana/Havana%20WH2%20handwritten%20text%20comparison_zpsvbgsch0f.jpg

Left is Wilhelm 2 and right is Havana both text were taken from the succesive reviews

This is a close up from the Havana sampler form (see down here)

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Waterman%20Havana/Havana%20WH2%20sampler%20comparison_zpsjb1cqte4.jpg

Ink Behaviour

Both inks are smooth. Both inks are wet but the Wilhelm 2 is wetter... De Atramentis inks usually are. Both inks dry quickly and the De Atramentis ink even faster.

Both inks only show little shading but this is compensated by the high sauration resultign in rich and deep colours.

Feathering is absent in both inks... the De Atramentis shows just a very little more showthrough but in both case this isn't an issue

the reason For more showthrough might be this:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Waterman%20Havana/Havana%20WH2%20Cousteau%20comparison_zpsba51mtcw.jpg

After half an hour underwater.

The De Atramentis ink lost it's colour but the text is still legible....

The Waterman ink dissapeared quicker than your saving after the 2008 Bank crisis....

That might be the reason why the Wilhelm 2 shows a very little more showthrough....

This in my opinion does not make the Waterman less, good remember both inks were not designed to be waterproof.

The Wilhelm 2 is therefore maybe even more suited for use at work...

Availability De Atramentis Wilhelm 2

Here is a link to the corresponding page on the De Atramentis website http://www.de-atrame...ntain-pens--28/

La Couronne du Comte http://www.lacouronneducomte.nl is always keen on satisfying their customers. If interested in the ink you can sen an e-mail to Rik or Dennis athttp://info@lacouronneducomte.nl

Too Conclude

Well should is I see the optician or just the neurologist?

Both inks have a lovely warm and deep rich red brown colour. Wilhelm 2 is a tad more red and Havana a little more brownish.....

In written test this difference is minimum though... Since they both behave well and I    the colours which are descent enough for everyday use but stil distinctive and elegant...

Regards

Peter

Nice review. Thanks for sharing!

I guess we shouldn't be so surprised that some inks look practically identical. The human eye can only distinguish just so many colors. :)

I encountered this recently with to inks that are similar in color: Sailor Jentle Grenade (no longer made), and Noodlers Galileo Manuscript brown. These are also both reddish brown inks (more red than the two you looked at), and when I wrote with them I could not tell the difference. They are so extremely similar in shade, but not in behavior. (Sailor has better shading)

Thanks again!

For some reason, I like my browns without red, although these two inks are beautiful colors, and any review from Morbus is a most entertaining read. I will stick with the Bung Box Espresso that I got from Vanness this week.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thank you, Peter, for the shout out.

I've tried Havana Brown, but not the De A ink. I am a fan of Dr. Jansen's inky work and have several of his inks. My favorite is Document ink Fuchsia.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I couldn't really discern much difference between the inks; I guess they are interchangeable. I like the Bung Box Espresso. It is a very dark brown.

Thanks for the review. I also found it to be entertaining.

Guess what? I did even better. I relinquished my bottles of Espresso, 4B, Nostalgia Brown, and Melancholy Grey to Amberlea. She already had Tears of a Clown, a very pleasant Ruby. Little vials of each are on their way to you, even as we write. I anxiously await your interesting and entertaining reviews!

If I get my scanner hooked up, I will post a picture. But you set the standard too high for me to review anything. I did write a little in my ink journal last night with Espresso in a TWSBI 580 Broad nib. It was barely distinguishable from Pelikan Black or Pilot Black from that wet writer. Cult Pens Deep Dark Brown is very dark brown, but I could still discern some brown. The Espresso looks pretty black.
