The Al Sport. I do not own the Brass Sport, however 44g is a lot for a pen to weigh. I hear it's very well balanced, however this is still a lot. The Al is heavy enough to feel solid and well made, but light enough to do some serious writing. I have the Raw version of the Al, and it's been in my pocket from the day I got it, taking all the abuse I can throw it it, including being dropped (on accident). Its nib is very smooth, and I love the way I can break it down so completely for cleaning. Because of this I use all of the "nasty" inks in there, inks like J. Herbin Rouge Hematite that has a history of all sorts of clogging and other mischief. This quality isn't exclusive to the Al sport, but it's really nice.

"Oh deer."

I want both, though I have neither! I've handled the Al Sport and it does feel nice in the hand, but I've not seen a Brass Sport for real, though I like the sound of the weight.

One thing to bear in mind about the Brass Sport is the smell, which also gets onto your fingers. If you don't like the smell of brass, go for the AL Sport!

Okay after receiving the pen earlier in the week I finally found a cartridge case to fit & filled it tonite. I had a new ink that seemed it would be a "good fit" that I also wanted to try. De Atramentis Lachs & gave it a go. It was a big shock to write with the pen posted because I was used to the significant weight difference of the "Raw Al Sport" from the other sports I started using. I have to say this feels like you have a" pen for the ages" instead of merely a writer. I have the same BB nib on all 6 Kawecos so there was certainly no surprise about it BUT this ink may be responsible for the wetter factor I just experienced. Some of them are a bit on the dry side & I don't use them for long writing sessions so it isn't a big deal but this was very pleasant.

I had handled the pen a bit in the five or so days since it's arrival & am pleased to note the patina arising from use. (This will be MY personal test because I come from a family that had brass beds (all untreated with coating & requiring intense polish for desired shine factor) & am used to the usual comment of "Oh a brass bed!" always spoken immediately after applying a nice sweaty palm print upon the freshly polished bed.) So I will be intrigued to see how I adapt to the developing patina. I like some copper aged, other pieces "cleaned" & have enjoyed the character the "Raw" version has developed. BUT character & tarnish are not the same issue. This will be a fun pen to enjoy & use. I hope we can look forward to the next surprise to be a COPPER version.

And I perhaps don't have an acute sense of smell but I detected nothing unusual about the brass composition of this pen. Perhaps I am immune from having slept in brass beds for a few years!

Which would be heavier still. ...

I like the look of the Brass but that is too heavy for a pocket pen. I'll stick with my AL Sport raw. Fun little pen. Imo, the perfect version for what the sport is supposed to be. A small sturdy portable pocket pen.
