Lubricating The Piston On A Meisterstück 149

Metal TWISBI. Spanner works on a Pelikan M800 & 1000. Not on Montblanc.

It also works well on loosening the end cap on an 823. I’ve also found that TWABI grease is well suited on pens that I’m unable to take apart.

Good point. The TWISBI silicone is much thinner than the standard thick stuff you get from most pen shops. There are those times when something light and thin like this is just what is called for. I like having the option. It’s good stuff to have around.

Also, before I start I wrap some masking or electrical tape around the top of the pen near the barrel end so that no damage can occur if the tool slips at all.

Nice tip, every days a school day :-)

What do you do if the end cap won't unscrew far enough to insert to tool?  On my 146 which arrived this morning I can only unscrew the end cap by around 3/4 of a turn, so it wouldn't be possible to fit the tool into the gap of around 1mm.   The pen is from around 1980 but still looks brand new.  It hasn't

been used for 20+ years so presumably the piston is stuck.

The pen has been soaking in warm water for over 8 hours but so far it hasn't helped.

Any ideas anybody?

You are right. Not forcing the piston mechanism is important because the spindle is very fragile. The pen might have to soak for a much longer time. Being patient and just letting it soak for a week or two is the only advice I can offer. …
