Cross Century II sterling silver

Recommended Posts

I´m on the lookout for silver pens, and I´ve found a few sterling Century´s online. I´ve noticed, however, that one of them had a steel nib. Isn´t that rather unusual? The silver pen in the Cross site has a 18k one. Does it make sense, making a silver (therefore expensive) pen with a steel nib?

regards,

Rique

I have a Cross Century II sterling that has a yellow-gold 18 k nib, but mine is not the "deep cut" model with the small black ring on end of the cap--it has the all-black piece. I can't tell whether the deep-cut sterling models (all silver, blue or black) have 18 k nibs plated in rhodium or are steel. If anyone knows for sure (it should say 14k or 18k on the nib unless it's steel), give us a post. Thanks. smile.gif

p.s. I don't know how much you want to spend or if you like heavy pens, but Yard-O-Led makes a lot of silver pens.

My Sterling Silver Deep Cut has a regular steel nib (mine is a scratchy M), but I prefer its cap end looks and the cut lines over the regular sterling.

Thank you, SaintSimon. I guess if yours has a steel nib then the other deep cut models do too. That is a nice looking pen. I don't quite remember why I chose the other sterling model--maybe it was the quirk of the yellow-gold nib with all that silver. My F nib is a little bit scratchy too, but in a way that kind of spoils me.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Sharkle, Yard-o-leds are not sold where I live (Brazil), unfortunately. The Century is the least expensive silver pen around here; then comes Sheaffer Heritage, and Parker Sonnet. I´m starting at the bottom...

SaintSimon - my experience with Cross nibs has always been good, so far - I haven´t yet come accross a scratchy one. Let´s hope my luck continues to hold.

regards,

Rique
