Ink Review: Diamine Bilberry

Recommended Posts

I have decided to review some of my inks. These aren't necessarily in any particular order.

This one is Diamine Bilberry. This is a very popular colour and is a nicely saturated, purply blue ink, but the flow can be a little wet in some pens. I have never had a problem with lubrication for this ink.

I started off my review with my new Parker Duofold M nib, but found it was too wet in that pen, so I filled my Lamy Nexx M with it instead. It's interesting to see how differently it behaves in 2 pens. The Duofold is a new pen to me, so I really wanted to try it out.

  • Water test on the review form shows this isn't a waterproof ink. In fact 2 drops of water almost completely washed it away.
  • Bearing in mind the paper I use is very smooth, and the nib was a medium, this ink took 16-18 secs to dry. It doesn't smear when dry though.
  • It flows wet, and lubricates the nib well.
  • It is currently available in 80ml glass bottles or 30ml plastic refill bottles.
  • Diamine sell it directly to end-users on their web-site.
  • It's a reasonable price

One of my favourites too, and the first 80ml Diamine bottle I purchased. Great review - thanks!

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

I bought this one when it first came out. It is a nice purple ink. Thanks for the review.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Thanks for the review! This one's been on my list of inks to try for a while.

So many inks, so little time...

You're welcome. I suggest you try it even if it's only a sample. :)

Have you experienced any issues with staining?

  • 1 month later...

I like that color but ........ As you wrote it, it's far too wet in my Graf intuition ..... I have to turn the converter's knob to push ink in the feeder. Never have had any problem with other inks in that pen ..... Well, as I like the color, I have to test it in another pen ......

Bilberry is sometimes described as blue and looks so in scans but the sample I tried was definitely purple. Some say it's very close to Private Reserve Tanzanite but I didn't see it.

Seek that which is true, beautiful, and good.
