Ink Review: Noodler's Ink, Blue Ghost. Grade: 68.75%.

Blue Ghost(BG) is probably the most interesting ink that I own. It was given to me as a gift because, as a practical person, I couldn't find a reason to buy this ink unless I was playing 'Cold War spy' with my friends. I wish I had gotten it sooner. Yes, it's sort of a novelty, but what a novelty! In the bottle, the ink is a pale yellow that reminds me of raw egg yolk.

After it dries, it's completely invisible. The only way I can see it on the page is if I scratch the paper by pressing down too hard while writing. It's a smooth writing ink but I wouldn't describe it as an overly wet ink with a drying time between 5-7 seconds on composition paper. This ink is a bulletproof ink and is very hard to clean or get off your hands. The first time I used it was in a dip pen and I successfully stained my thumb and middle finger for 3 days. Thankfully no one could see it.

BG doesn't shade. BG doesn't bleed. And it doesn't like to show up on cheap composition paper. I'd recommend a nice cream colored paper if you're using BG. The picture I took is on a little Moleskine grid notebook. And lastly, BG doesn't like to have its picture taken. I only have an iPhone 5 and I couldn't get it to say "cheese". The best picture i got was from taking a video on my phone then snapping a screenshot. Granted, I have a cheap LED black light flashlight; your results may vary.

I haven't figured out what I'm going to do with BG yet. I know I can write a secret message to someone (which I look forward to). I've also heard (from Brian Goulet's videos) that there are stories of wives writing their husbands in the military in BG so all the private romantic musings *stay* private. And I've heard you can add BG to other inks and they can take on its luminescent properties.

I haven't tried that yet, but I really really want to. If you want to try an ink that is fascinating and fun to play/experiment with, you should check this ink out.

Thanks for the review. I bought a bottle of this a while back, but haven't used it yet. I just don't have too many "secret" messages to send.

Thank you. And you're welcome. I've mostly been enjoying using it in my drawing (pictures below). I love how it turns my drawings from one thing into another.

The best idea I've ever heard for a suggestion is writing down passwords. We all have a ton of them if we're trying to keep our information safe. Why not write them in an address book? No one would be aware.

I also see potential for abuse, i.e. Using Blue Ghost for nefarious purposes. Like that woman in England who used an invisible ink to keep a secret log of how much she stole. Or keeping a "little black book" hidden in plain sight.

Good reviews, thanks!

On the subject of passwords in plain sight - try writing using a yellow highlighter on yellow post it notes. When needed use black light to read!! Very handy if you don't have blue ghost!

I like the idea of using it for keeping track of passwords! That will help me a lot!

So Blue Ghost is mostly only visible under black light? Interesting. Is there any other way it's really visible (i.e., on paper in other colors besides cream)?

I like the password idea, too BTW. And the drawing is great (made me think of some of the artwork in the "A Few Ghosts" thread because the eyes under the mat made me think of "Inky"...).

I like the idea of Blue Ghost allowing me to use my favorite non-waterproof color (provided they're mixable together) with the assurance that if my writing gets washed away, I can still read it with a blacklight! I'm going to have to get a bottle of this stuff eventually, I think.

Now I'll have to find a small handheld black light!

Nice review. I was wondering, what size nib works best with Blue Ghost? Would it be very difficult to read when using a very fine (EF/F) nib?

Great drawing!

Thank you. I've been using Blue Ghost for my past two Goulet Pens' contest. I love hiding things in there.

It is completely invisible unless it's under a black light. I've not tried holding it under heat(like lemon juice) but that's not supposed to make it visible.

I use it in a Platinum Preppy that has a fine nib and don't have any issues. I don't think putting it in an EF would either. This stuff goes on just like normal, very wet, ink.

I like to see more of your art work, is there a sub forum for sketches?

I'm definitely going to have to try that. Especially at work. you could use it for bank information. I can imagine account numbers would be very enticing to a burglar.

I just looked and there is a creativity sub forum, but i didn't see an art forum. I'll have to look into it.

I love the drawing!

Thank you very much. I asked an admin if where I can post more since I don't see an art sub-board. I'll see what they say.

I like the password idea.

But, I think my favorite thing is your great drawing. I use Blue Ghost every year in my chemistry class. I really want to do a drawing like that!
