Taking Care Of Chrome Components

Hey I was just wonder whether fellow pen peple had any advice for taking care of chrome components on writing instruments? I have a

Mitsubishi Uni Pure Malt Mechanical Pencil, pictured below, which has some tarnishing I would like to remove and prevent from happenning again.

I recently bought some silver polish (paste form) and noticed it said it could be used for chrome. However, I've not used it on chrome.

Try a light polishing with a good chrome polish. Remember that chrome is a plating, so if you go too crazy you'll wear through to the base metal.

After that, I would suggest carrying the pencil in a case rather than in a pocket if you don't already and generally try to keep it dry and away from too much humidity if you can (particularly salty humidity like near an ocean, which may be unavoidable, and sweaty pocket humidity).

Depending on how close you are to the ocean, a little tarnishing may be an unavoidable fact of life for that pencil, unfortunately.

Here to help when I know, learn when I don't, and pass on the information to anyone I can :)

maybe you can try using a regular car wax. that's what i used to clean the ugly blotches on the metal trimmings on my omas fountain pens. it was recommended by the shop keeper where i got the pens from. and it worked. they informed me that the discoloration on metal parts tend to be caused by a contact with lotion or parfume.

Technically speaking, they should download any needed updates by themselves.

Haha, sorry but I use Firefox ;)
