Nibless Fp, As A Dip Pen

I got an old Esterbrook, with no nib, to try out as a dip pen. It's just an experiment

 

Any suggestions on how to know which size/kind of nib would slide on?

One of the great things about Esterbrooks (depending on which type you have), is that all the nibs are interchangeable, except the really old dip pens, and those nibs are even more readily available. But if you have a lever fill pen, J, SJ, LJ, or Dollar pen, then the nib and feed are pressed into a collar and all you have to do is unscrew the collar with the damaged or broken nib and screw in a new one of your choosing. The whole process takes about 10 seconds. Look around the popular auction sites and pen sites that deal with vintage pens and you will see plenty of NOS Esty nibs of all types for sale.

 

A word of caution though, if your nib doesn't want to come out easily, dont force it. Soak it in water to help get rid of any dried up ink that might be keeping the nib from unscrewing.
