Waterman Absolute Brown

Ambrose Bierce

Recommended Posts

When I first inked up this ink I hated it. There was way to many red undertones, and it looked like I was writing with wet mud. So I put it on my shelf and I didn't use it for a while. Eventually I decided to put it in a super fine nib, and the red undertones were gone due to the lack of shading in the fine nib. I decided to give it another go in again and put it in my Ahab, and surprisingly the I am liking it a little bit more. I still enjoy richer browns more, but this isn't horrible.

Thanks for the review. I had a bottle of Waterman Aztec, then it changed to Havana Brown. I can't for the life of me think why Waterman would opt for this Absolute Brown description.

The Aztec had a nice label with the head of an Aztec man in silhouette and an ancient building in the background. Not sure how old it was but there was a 10c price label on the lid. The ink was in good condition and closely matched the color in your review.

They came as a boon, and a blessing to men,
The Pickwick, the Owl and the Waverley pen

Sincerely yours,

Pickwick

I know. Whatever it might be, "absolute" is what it actually isn't. :)

I've taken to ignoring the fluff in the Waterman names and just describing them by their color: "W. Tender Purple" --> "W. Purple", "W. Serenity Blue" --> "W. Blue", "W. Inspired Blue" --> "W. Turquoise", etc. Unless they start making a lot more varied ink colors, we really have no need of the extra descriptions.

I know my id is "mhosea", but you can call me Mike. It's an old Unix thing.

I enjoyed it as Havana brown. Good, reliable, cheep.

Thanks for the review.

As it happens, I like browns with red overtones.

Same with me. I rather don't like the browns that look as though they were meant to be black but somehow didn't quite make it and therefore ended up as a sort of brown (the kind that are called 'chocolate' etc.).

Waterman Brown is one of the inks I use most!

In current use: Cleo Skribent Classic, Waterman Expert, Diplomat Excellence, Pineider Avatar, Sheaffer Targa (the good old Sheaffer, not one Made in China)
