I Am Imagining A Skeletonized Twsbi...

Last night, I was dreaming-up unique ideas for TWSBI designs, and I hit upon a concept that merges two of my favorite pen designs into one, while remaining truly TWSBI. I would love to see a skeletonized TWSBI fountain pen.

What do I mean?

Contemplate for a moment the Montblanc Skeleton 333:

Now contemplate how the TWSBI Diamond 580 or Diamond 580 AL would look with latticework like that, wrapped around perhaps a round (not necessarily Diamond-pattern) barrel, of the same chrome metal as the furniture on other TWSBI pens.

Certainly, it would make the barrel thicker, but perhaps no thicker than a TWSBI Micarta barrel.

Thoughts? I would love to see a render, if someone has the technical know-how to put one together.

I think it is a great idea! I would buy one in a minute. I bet a skeleton overlay could be formed to slip over the diamond barrel without having to change the barrel design. Of course, it would be easy for TWSBI to produce round barrels, but there is the cost of new injection molds, etc. An overlay that was pressed to have the diamond shape on its inside would be easier to get into production.

My only problems with this idea is that given TWSBI's track record, it would take 3 years to come out

Truly, an overlay with the Diamond barrel would keep it more TWSBI, too! That would actually look really awesome...

Fair point...we might get teased with prototype pictures for the whole three years, though!

Interesting, and I would probably consider buying one (especially if the skeleton were available in the right colors - imagine a nice shade of green or blue!). Still, I have to wonder about the wisdom of giving TWSBI new ideas until the ones already in the queue make it to market! :D

The colored skeleton is something I had not contemplated. Interesting, and I wonder how easily done it would be. After all, even the TWSBI Diamond 580AL in orange still has silver furniture on the cap, piston ring, and section ring. But a green or blue would be quite lovely!
