Review: Joseph Da Luz Custom Nib Grind/noodler's Flex Konrad Acrylic

I like this pen SO much I've ordered another.

 

It has become my go-to pen for penpal letters and regular (almost daily) writing practice. I kept wishing I had another so I could keep them inked in contrasting inks. There are times when having it inked with say, a hot pink Iroshizuku Tsutsuji or Noodler's ink blend along the lines of Apache Sunset just won't do for a condolence letter.

 

I've told Joseph Da Luz I'm in no hurry and to please take his time. Then the package also needs to make its way across oceans and through a temperamental local postal service. So it might take a little while.

 

But I'm excited. Very.

 

(Is this where I confess I impulsively ordered two, not just one, more Noodler's Konrads to have their nibs modified? You see, two cost the same as one to freight across the other side of the world... and I really like the nib... and it gets very regular use... and I like the Noodler's acrylics... and I like having pens inked with an ink from the same colour family to match the barrel...)

Everone can easily add this kind of flex to a Noodler´s flex nib or an FPR flex nib.

It won´t take long and it is not complicated.

Thanks for that Pterodactylus. I can see the distinct similarities now you have brought both to my attention, yes.

 

I remember not feeling at all confident about trying the EMF mod out myself back when I ordered the first mod. At the the time I'd given up on the idea of the EMF mod by myself. No-one I knew had a dremel, I didn't have the patience to use a flat nail file to make curves, and reckoned I'd end up with uneven sides due to incompetence which would drive me batty. I came across one of the custom ground pens with overfeed by Joseph Da Luz while seeking vintage flex pens.

 

You have brought the similarities to my attention - I will be careful to use neutral language from here on regarding the nib shape Pterodactylus. I feel it is not my discussion to enter into and would be inappropriate for me to do so. I am an end user who is glad to be able to pass the job of changing the flex, nib size, overfeed setup, and section modification to someone more experienced and competent at it than I.
