Not "molested"?

So many words in English acquire a specific meaning or nuance over time; I have great sympathy for those who have to learn it from scratch and admiration for those who do it well.

I type too fast and missed the "ed". Although English is not my mother tongue, I have learned it academically and have had a lot of practice.

No need to apologize; I was just making sure. In Spanish, the word (molestar) has a meaning closer to the earlier English one, "to bother" - with no sexual connotation.

I love how the language changes. During the Civil War, apparently some soldier wrote home to his wife that they were to soon have "intercourse with the enemy". And this in spite of a rather, um, *interesting* town name here in Pennsylvania (there are t-shirts I've seen for sale that say "Virginia may be for lovers, but Pennsylvania has Intercourse"...). Which, if you check Wikipedia, is NOT the meaning for the town name (which was apparently originally "Cross Keys"). But of course that doesn't stop people from making the jokes (because, after all, it's between Blue Ball and Hell).

Of course, those are not actually the weirdest town names in PA. That honor, IMO, would probably be either "Eighty-Four" or "Torpedo", but there are some other wacky ones right up there....

I'll admit to going to this thread because of the topic, rather than in spite of it -- but that was because of the "Say WHAT?" factor....

Apart from the interesting discussion on words and spell chequers, did we ever solve the OP's question of a good Moleskin replica?

I currently carry a small Nu:Elite notebook in my backpack as it has proved far more robust than others I have tried, and has excellent (but thick) paper.

Is heavier paper considered inferior? Or are you simply making a comparison to Moleskine?

I've been fairly happy with the Ecosystems journals I got at Barnes and Noble. Unfortunately, they seem to be only on B&N's website at the moment (one of my local brick and mortar locations used to have a Ecosystems display carousel, but no more -- they also no longer seem to have a Rhodia carousel, for that matter...). Don't know offhand what the paper weight is -- but for being 100% recycled paper, the pages are pretty FP friendly. I think they are comparably priced to Moleskin (possibly with more pages), and less expensive than Leuchtturm 1917.

No, merely stating that the paper is thicker than other notebooks, resulting in the whole notebook being thicker and heavier.

There may be advantages to heavier weight paper, in that there may be less likelihood of show through and you can use both sides of the page, and depending on the finish, may have fewer issues with ink smudging. OTOH, heavier weight paper, depending on the finish, may have inks feathering and spreading, and may alter the color and sheen of the ink (if you care about such things). It's a trade-off.

Yes, Nu:Elite paper has a combination of those properties. It's surface is so dense that it takes full-strength Noodler's Blue a very long to dry, as it doesn't sink into the paper. I have to use NB diluted 40% with water to dry quickly. However, it is also sensitive to very wet inks with a lot of surfactant, as it lets those inks spread more than I would like.

OTOH, it will take pretty well any ink/pen combination without bleeding or feathering, just a little spreading.

And, the notebooks are robust enough to go in my backpack and suffer the abuse therein without coming apart at the seams like my Modena Moleskine look-alike.

Going back to the original point, I suppose Modena is a Moleskine replica, as it has paper that isn't all that good, just like Moleskine, but it's not one that I want to use. As I said, it falls apart with robust use, as well as bleeding/feathering with richer inks.
