Cartridge Filling (Not Re-Filling)

Recommended Posts

Couldn't see a really appropriate place for asking, so here seems to be to be most natural place...

I was wondering how actually ink cartridges are made, filled and sealed, not refilling the used and empty ones, but the brand new things you buy.

Well I can image about the making (except with the spheres), filling (there are automatic filling machine on youtube and several marketplaces).

But where does one get empty cartridges, how are they sealed, does every ink manufacturer has their own in house developed equipment or is their some supplier of such machines, or are they outsourcing (maybe the smaller ones ?) the cartridge filling to the same toll processor ? Anything like US or EU equipment manufacturers or toll processors, or are all, if any, based in Asia?

Just wondering.

All ink cartridges are made in slovakia or so I think well except from the japanese big three which are all made in house

One thing is certain its a machine thats capable both injection molding and heat sealing along as being a fluid dispenser of some sort

Interesting! I haven't heard of Slovakia before. I wonder if their GDP is based mostly of ink cartridges. Do ink manufactures send batches of ink to be cartridgized (idk?) or do they just the cartridge makers a recipe to follow?

Thanks I must have missed these

at Lamy 2:04 indeed filling cartridges in house (2:00 is the injection machine making the cartridges I guess (or pen bodies, but likely the cartridges from the context)

at Parker, didn't realize there is a small thread on part of the cartridge, will inspect when the one in use is empty ...

about Slovakia: will look further into this, I think everything is possible there, shipping mainly water back and forth might not be the most ecologic solution. But maybe the boutique versions come from a formulator/filler anyhow, chosen from a catalog and given boutique invented names. Would make sense as well, and takes the burden of formula development from the boutiques.

Edited : nice forum indeed : so the country could well Slovenia, not Slovakia

I think you mean 0:36, that is an ink bottle being filled. 0:42 shows the cartridges being filled.

Yep, makes sense.

I have a "suspect" for the Slovenian link as well: supplier to many well-kown world concerns, market-chains, manufacturer of writing instruments etc. like Herlitz, Staedtler, Depesche, Schneider, Diplomat, Sheaffer Pen - Bic Corp., Reform, Senator, Romus, Aldi, Carrefour, WHS etc., has shipped also to Private Reserve several times, based in Slovenia.

But then again: once you now the answer, it is easy to find more on this superb network ... https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/124654-slovenia-and-private-reserve/?hl=vivapen&do=findComment&comment=2449775
