Love Letter Paper

Recommended Posts

Okay, corny title, I know. But, my 12 year anniversary is coming up and with my new obsession of fountain pens I really want to do something nice for my wife. I was thinking of writing her a long love letter. I have some Tomoe river paper in my journal notebook but I really don't want to tear that out. Any suggestions for a romantic love letter stationary set or paper itself? I'm also open for any inks that might go well with this. (Not like I need to spend more money on this hobby, but hey why not!)

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

My most common choice is a cotton rag paper. The cotton is warm when held and has a very different hand than cellulose paper. Also, most rag papers are without optical brightening agents, so are easier on the eye; and if a warm ink is used there isn't so much 'snap' on the page. Other than writing paper, the hot press watercolour papers come in handy.

Sometimes I've gone in quite the other direction - using very light thin paper for billets doux that whisper. Sourcing such paper can be a bit tricky: I find acid free interleaf tissue is suitable, though the heavier onionskin might be considered.

I cut the sheets to any size other than the typical copy/print formats; and often use a single soft fold - no origami or razor-sharp creases from use of a folding bone.

Bye,

S1

As it's a special occasion you could buy some hand-made paper with flower/rose petals embedded in the fibres. Available from most good crafting suppliers. It can be a bit soft & absorbent but mine works well with fine nibs & the right ink.

I second Sandy1's recommendation of cotton rag paper - it's very elegant and you know it's quality when you touch it. For several years I wrote love letters on a pale blue linen-finish A4 paper; it was my "signature" stationery while my source lasted. Fortunately we moved in together just before I ran out!

I have bought nice resumé paper in the stationery aisle of Target, et al.

My favorite is Crane Kidd-finish paper. Nice paper -- nothing glamorous.

Make the ordinary paper romantic with your words. Let your heart

serenade your soul. Pour your soul into your pen, and write. She will know.
