My Parker Collection (With Bonus Quink Scans)

Tom Traubert

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Thought I'd post my fledgling Parker collection - it's mostly vintage(ish) with a few new ones that I've found at a good price. I'm looking to complete the set of UK Duofolds in blue - I can't get enough of them. I've also included a scan of the paper so you can see why I love Quink blue black, red and green so much. Anyway, sorry not sorry for the self indulgent post!

Cheers! It's actually flex, not italic. Those UK aerometric Duofolds are so springy. And I've just won a Senior in the same colour.

Very nice collection. I like the green Quink.

It's great, isn't it? A real British Racing Green. Sadly discontinued. I may have to start rationing.

I saw some Parker Green for sale but it was more like Turquoise when I got it. I have one bottle left of the old Quink Permanent Green.

The Parker green ink is hard to find in this part of the world. Yet , I have a bottle. But, as Matlock said ,it does not look like real green. I ,rather, like using iroshizuku green.

I haven't used Iroshizuku green mitto, sounds like it might be worth a try.

It looks like waterman green to me, wouldn't be surprised if it is the same stuff

That's reassuring. I may buy a bottle of Waterman green to see.

My second choice for green is the local brand Dollar Green. It is a beautiful and cheap green ink.

Very nice collection! I'm glad to see they're all inked. I have read many good things about Parker Sonnets here on FPN, so I ordered two flighters yesterday. I bought some Duofolds in the 90s; they are good pens and virtually indestructible. I also broke out my Parker 75 because of a post on those. I had forgotten what a beautiful pen it is.

(Edited to fix some auto-correct mistakes—is that an oxymoron?)

Yes , the Sonnet is the best modern parker pen. I have both the flighter CT and GT versions as well as Matt Black GT and Silver Lustre and Gold Lustre versions. And , I am on the hunt for for the Sterling Silver Grid version too.

I bought the chrome and the gold trim versions as well. The other ones look good, too. Sooner or later I will get one with a gold nib just to compare. I actually like some stainless nibs, Kaweco and Pilot come to mind, very much.

I agree about the Sonnet. An excellent pen. I currently own the dark grey Gt with 18k nib sadly too nice a pen to use daily. That wasn't my first sonnet though, I owned a matte black gt one however sadly I lost it after only a week of owning it. I'm probably going to buy another matte black gt one in the next few months so I can have a sonnet in rotation. The other nice thing about the Sonnet is the nib fits in to the frontier giving you more options.

I like the Sonnet and have twenty-five or so of them. Have pencils, ballpoints and rollerballs also. I find I have to keep the pens clean to keep them writing, but some of these nibs are outstanding.

I couldn't fit a Sonnet nib into a Frontier. How did you do that, Blue Knight? The Sonnet nibs and sections do screw into Insignia pens, though.

Forgot it turns out it's the other way round. the frontier nib fits into the sonnet but it doesn't screw in but will stay in fine with friction. But the Sonnet nib won't fit in the frontier. It's annoying as I hoping to buy a sonnet nib to turn one of my frontiers into something more interesting.

But I do have a question if you wouldn't mind answering it I think I'm right in saying that in 2010 the Sonnet nib was changed to a more firm nib from the springy nib which had the issues the one Bruce likes to moan about. Am I right in saying that from your experience the pre-2010 refresh Sonnet steel nibs were springy (pens with the curly P logo) because I've always wanted one of those nibs so am thinking of buying an older nib unit for my current post 2010 sonnet.

I am not too sure about any nib change but Penbox have a very good range of Sonnet nibs (Gold and Steel). Why not have a word with them, I have always found them helpfull. No connection.
