Just got a heirloom cap grey charcol capilliary filled parker 61. It arrived just last night from Quetta - the capital of Balochistan Province. Paid Rs. 5000.00 ($49.00) for the pen. It is my first capilliary filled P61. The filler as well as the overall pen is in good condition. Do I need take any special care of the pen before I fill it and start using it?

Huge amont of flushing with water, no detergent.

Ideally use a rubber bulb to pump water through, if you havent got one look for a drinking straw that is big enough to push over the capillary and then suck and blow water through the pen until the water runs clear.

You may also want to try pushing the straw over the nib section and dipping the capillary into the ink, pulling ink through the pen up into the straw, then remove the straw. A little messy but the pen and feed will therefore be very full of ink.

Good luck with the pen Khan, its a favourite of mine, a little temporamental but worth the effort.

Thank you Beechwood . What are the hallmarks on the cap side?

Because the Rainbow cap is made up of two grades of filled gold, the marks refer to the gold content of the filling. The top mark is probably 14 K and the bottom one 16 K.

Yes , the top mark is 14k and the bottom one is 16k. How best to clean the filler?

I don't think there is any prohibition on seeking second opinion and especially from someone you trust in.

I think Beechwood has covered just about everything. One thing I remember from another post is that every so often you should fill the pen by immersing the nib and not the filler in the ink. Probably to reverse the ink flow? It seems this was included in the early USA instructions but not later UK ones (certainly no mention in mine). Seems rather strange to design a filling system that avoids dipping the nib, only to instruct users to do just that, albiet only occasionaly.

Does that mean the pen also sucks ink from the nib side? I am asking this question particularly because , as a first step in the cleaning process , I kept the nib and section of the pen immersed in water mixed with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. I think I did something wrong.

Not so. Matlock is my friend. So I just wanted to have him on board. I appreciate your sincere advice ,though , dear Beechwood.

I don't think that is quite what mitto meant :)

What he meant to say and what he actually did say may be the same or different, I dont really care.

Thats the last piece of advice that I give on here, I am done with FPN.

It is as Matlock said and as I said earlier. just a desire to seek second opinion and there should be no bar on that.

Edited to correct typo.

I hope that you don't mean that as advice is what we all require from time to time. The beauty of FPN is that the advice comes from all parts of the world, with all it's variety of culture and understanding, and it is invaluable because of that.

Trim the rubber bulb to fit snugly over the capillary filler, so it is easier to flush.

The bulb can be applied to the nib end for "back-flush". Flush a lot. Leave

sitting with water in the reservoir. Flush some more.

One of my Ebay Parker 61's is missing the decorative, gold arrow over the nib.

I was warned not to expose the arrow to ultrasonic cleaning, lest it comes off.

(I haven't tested the claim.)

The black reservoir is Teflon. I never wipe it. I just touch it to the side of the

bottle, when done filling. Then, I re-assemble the pen.

I hope you love your Parker 61 as much as I do mine.

Will do clean the pen as you and others advised. I am sure I would enjoy using the pen as you do or, perhaps , more. And , thank you Sasha Royale dear.
