A Special Request: Pen Suggestion

I'm looking for suggestions(online, UK) as to which pen to get, with £55.

 

To explain....my dear husband, who beamed up to heaven some months ago, had a very old car, which has been sitting in it's space behind our building.....it's been unusable for years, an ancient Clio, but last week so done smashed a window, broke in, tried to steal it, with no luck.

 

Anyway, I knew I needed it to go....and it was incredibly difficult to arrange, as the entrance to the parking spaces behind the building is a limited height access. The nearest I had managed to get was so done who would charge me £100 to do it....

 

Long story short, I found a place with a truck which could fit, and rather than me paying them, they paid me, so I have a cheque for £55 fir the scrap/salvage( plus all the proper paperwork.....husband was an ex policeman in Glasgow, and I learned a few things from him)

 

So, Picard has gone(I always named our cars....this one was called Picard, as it's first letter was a P. I know. Daft. There it is)....

 

I want to buy a pen with the money.....I've a few ideas already, but would love to hear any suggestions....

Italix Parson's Essential springs to mind at £39, or the Captain's commission for £50 - but it is a much heavier pen.

 

I'm sure someone would suggest a Parker 51 - you can just about get a cleaned/restored one on e-bay for about £50 if you look hard enough. I don't own one myself, having gone off vintage pens a bit (too many duffs)., but I'm sure it might be an option.

 

WH Smith's are selling Waterman Carenes with a large discount too - take a look at their website, as some of the more expensive pens seem to have quite a large discount on the web.

 

Alternatively take a look at Cross at Cult pens - they are doing pen sets with large discounts too - a Century II & biro for around £45. Cross cartridges are expensive though.

Oh.....I have fallen for one, which is more expensive, but has a significance and connection....I don't think it would spoil it if I paid a wee bit more than the car money.....I think I'll go for it.....

I was going to suggest the Churchmans prescriptor, and you can get initials on it.

I don't know why but it does have the look of a "policemans pen" about it.

I was seconds away from buying one on Weds.

 

Why not get a pen that matches the car (I know Glesga folk are a sentimental bunch, I am)

The Delta vintage comes in a few colors and is a stunner too.

They are going for a brilliant price on ebay just now, and I've just bought a red one.

You'd have change left from your £55 to buy a lovely sentimental ink to go in it.

 

My father in law and good friend passed just before Christmas, and I bought a pen with the "prezzie money" he gave me just before he left suddenly, and I always have it inked with his favourite colour.

My lip starts to tremble even just looking at it.

Once this hellish grief period passes, looking at it will eventually bring a smile to my face.

It's called the "Buckie" pen. (after my father in law, not the wine) and although not particularly expensive, it has emotional value

 

Just a thought.

I'm a Bridgeton weegie originally that took flight to the sticks with my parents in the mid 70s, when the New Towns arrived.

I have friends in the Airdrie/Coatbridge area and was astounded to find that they have the self same aforementioned wine on the gantry in the pubs

The consumers get round the stigma by asking for a "claret lady" at the bar.

Having it served to you in a half pint tumbler kinda gives the game away though.

Snort....Im from Springboig, not that far from Bridgeton. Husband was a Maryhill lad, his parents did the same....moved out to Cumbernauld, Seafar. He was quite a bit older than me....21 year age difference, but it never made any difference to us. 34 years married, and we were soulmates. I was his carer for years...increasingly bad strokes(plus had one myself). He was in a nursing home for the last two years of his life, which was very difficult. Had another massive stroke on my birthday last year, then beamed up to heaven very soon after. Sorry for offloading....not got any family( just the cats, Spock and Data, who do listen well) and my Mum was burned to death in a house fire three years ago. Life is.....challenging.

Have just bought a beautiful Delta.....thanks for the suggestion.

I was also going to suggest the Italix Parson's Essential. You can have your selection of nibs. The black is classic. The blue and the burgundy are both gorgeous.

 

You said you had "fallen for one." What pen is it? Evidently it's not the PE, because you mentioned paying a bit more for it. Is it the Waterman?

Mine was delivered yesterday....On a Sunday!!!!?... I only ordered it on Thursday.

And your conversation back and forth has re-awakened my long-time desire to visit Scotland. There's something about it that speaks to me. When I get there it may be saying, "Go home and get dry and warm ya' daftie" but I doubt it.

If you're coming, make it during the dry season when it only rains twice a day.

Thank you.....I do sometimes worry that I get too "off topic"(ie pens) and I know that's frowned on in some forums. It's nice to get reassurance.
