I was a bit disappointed with this Kobe ink, especially as it was #50. I expected a more notable colour.

I suppose that along with the more inks you get, the higher the chances of potential disappointment become.

This ink is certainly no legend. I agree with the sentiment that it's an ordinary, middle of the road blue and nothing that special. Especially bearing in mind how much Sailor Kobe inks can cost.

Mine developed some kind of SITB. Might have been chemical rather than bio, but I just can't remember whether I added any Dowicil 75 to this one (if so, possibly Dowicil 75 wasn't compatible). Anyway, I did not mourn the loss. I have plenty of Diamine Royal Blue.

I know my id is "mhosea", but you can call me Mike. It's an old Unix thing.

Great review! I had the same experience and impressions that you did. This is actually my least favorite Sailor store exclusive ink that I've ordered (but I should say that I haven't landed on many duds thanks to Saskia_Madding's thorough reviews of most their inks :) )

Yeah, this one was LAME. I mean, it's fine, really, but Sailor makes so many amazing blues that now I'm spoiled. I didn't even think this was notable enough to make it into the reliablue category, where the likes of Sailor Sky High reside. :)

"Fine" is exactly the word that comes to mind when I look at #50. Actually, that's true of most of the Kobe blues I've tried, including 36, 23, 38. I'm about to order some #2 and maybe some #17 in the hopes that I'll be more wowed than I was by #50.

Yikes. Don't bet on it for #17. I just revisited my review of that one and it's pretty boring. I recall #2 being the same.

I did however really like #38 though.

Have you tried #37? If you don't mind a long dry time, it's pretty nice.

Kobe #14 is also nice.

#14 is awesome! My favorite of the Kobes so far. #38 was OK, but way too dark for me. I actually find #17 really pretty, but I have a thing for lighter inks (that's also why I'm drawn to Enteloma Virescens...). Decisions, decisions...

Sorry i came late to the party.

I also prefer #14: Maya Lapis to #50: Kyo-Machi Legend Blue.

On its own merits, though, Kyo-Machi Legend Blue is a beautiful looking ink, IMO.

Part of my problem, I think, was using the ink in my finer nibs, which made the blue rather insipid. I agree that in broader nibs, the #50 becomes much more attractive.

Thanks for the comparisons.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
