Thanks, Kent and Ray, for addressing the Masuyama gold/steel nib differences.

I think both of these are bargains. I can see I will have to try the F-C gold Masuyama-ground italic nibs. I hope F-C comes again to the SF Pen Show. I think they did well with on-site orders. They sold out of several models. I had to buy my Model 02 online after the show.

Received mine today. Hard to review as it's a F-C with a Masuyama M stub. Meaning it's as exactly as I expected. Superb craftmanship, fantastic nib.Size is perfect and the balance is great when posted. I will say what totally surprised me is the cap is 100% friction fit. No clutch mechanism, no inner cap. No worries but I was surprised. I love, love, love the section and the recessed nib. The section reminded me of another pen. It was really nagging at me. I had to go digging through my accumulation. The section is more than a little reminiscent of my Sheaffer flat top, which contributes greatly to the vintage vibe of the pen. I hope they take their time introducing colors, I can't afford more pens this year.

Congratulations!

I was thinking about "Hard to review," which I totally understand. F-C may have done even better than they knew. This is an "easy" pen. No flash. Like a favorite old sweater or favorite chair. I enjoy looking at most of my other pens more, but I could see myself carrying and using the Model 20 way more than those beauties.

If the model 20 can be had without clip, then I'm sold on the model.

Thanks again. István

Just call and ask them. If it can be done, they'll do it for you.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

Thank you Kent. Now I'm even more sold on the 20. I looked for the option on the F-C web-site & found it.

Thank you Kent. Now I'm even more sold on the 20. I looked for the option on the F-C web-site & found it.

I like how comfortable the pen is. I like vintage green acrylic on my Marietta. But it leaks way too much. There is always ink in the cap. I have MM needlepoint nib and I notice that the comb feed feels with ink very fast. I notice this most with Diamine Onyx Black. I am not sure what the problem is, it could be the feed leaking or slip on cap sucking out ink.

Sounds like your converter may not be tight enough to the feed...

Thanks, could be. Leaking stopped as mysteriously as it started. I must say the more I use this pen the more I like it. Its my favourite at the moment. And Masuyama needlepoint is just getting better the more I write with it. For a needlepoint its just incredibly crisp, not scratchy at all except on rubbish copy paper. I like it so much I ordered F-C pocket 66 in Jade green with MM medium stub steel nib.

Did you get the 20 in the end? Curious whether it met expectations. I bought mine without a clip and use it every day. :)

Sorry to be "necroposting" but I might as well post this onto one of may favourite pen reviews. Thanks David.

At Toronto's Scriptus 2016 show I was able to handle both the model #20 (short cart-only) & the #20 Marietta (C/C).

Wonderpens of Toronto had a series of special #20s made for them for the show. Unfortunately they were all a greyish demonstrator resin, but at least I could handle both styles of the pen & see what the clipped & clipless versions looked like.

I was shown how to cap or uncap the 20s with just one hand.

Once I get a 14c JoWo nib modified to fit the F-C # 20 Marietta, I will contact Jim Rouse at the shop to make an order.
