Filofax A5 Notebook...and Arc Hole Punch

Just got the above notebook and discovered that a Staples Arc paper punch makes holes that are a pretty good fit in the Filofax. This is a way to customize the paper you put into one of these notebooks. My only complaint about the Filofax so far is that when you fold the cover back for a more compact writing surface, pages at the front tend to pop out. Since there are not many pages that come with the notebook, this is not great. I find the Circa and the Arc rings to be so huge that they look ridiculous (to me) and make the profile of the notebook much higher on one side. So.... there is room for a creative person to come up with some way of holding the pages together that is compact and yet allows enough room for pages to move freely.

My life is full of mistakes. They're like pebbles that make a good road.

I've been eyeing the Filofax notebook since the Goulet video review was published, but I held myself from buying due to the lack of a compatible punch.

It's nice to know that there is a punch that actually works.

I suppose the Circa punch will do the trick too?

I am considering the small portable punch from Levenger and a Cross Click along with the Filofax A5 as a notetaking set for university.

Staples sells their Arc punch for about $39, less with coupon. It works with all of these notebooks. Little Levenger punch can only do about five sheets per punch whereas large Arc punch is same size and capacity as the very expensive Levenger one.

Indeed, I 've seen some video reviews and the big punches are nice and robust.

But I live in Europe and I don't know how I could get these things here. Add to that the shipping costs and taxes and it get's pretty expensive for something I am not 100% sure it's gonna work for me.. :(

I love the Filofax notebooks but I'm not crazy about the paper. Supposedly it's 100 gsm but there is a lot of feathering and bleed through. I would love to have a Filofax cover over Rhodia, Clairefontaine, or Tomoe River. Anyone have some pictures of paper punched with the Arc in a FiloFax?

There are smaller rings too?

This works great with the A5 notebook. Install the extra punch that it comes with and it is a perfect fit at the A5 marking.

This punch is almost what I'm looking for. But I don't really understand what you're saying.

It seems that both the MiracleBind and NotePro are missing a binding ring in the middle.

Does the punch come with a special part that you can install and punch the missing hole too?

Oh I didn't know that Staples ships internationally. I'll look into that.

I was trying to get a Levenger desk punch from Amazon, but I can't figure out how to calculate shipping costs. I tried the checkout button and it goes all the way to the credit card information form without mentioning the final amount to be charged.

I'm not sure it does but there is Staples in Europe as well is what I meant to say. I do not know about Greece.

If it won't check out that means that Amazon does not ship to your country.

Some of us could look to order for you and re-ship?

Nope, no Staples in Greece and it seems that they won't ship over here either.

I think I'll go for the FIlofax punch (thanks Nebuchadnezzar for the link!) and if it doesn't work with the Notebooks, I'll get a MiracleBind instead.

Thank you alc3261 for you kind offer to help me out! :)

I have a Filofax Flex Lizard, its true, that are much better papers out there. I'm sure that the notebook isn't 100 gsm, feels like its barely 70 gsm. But would be sure, if I would rip of a page and measure it. To be honest I met better 60 gsm paper than their notebooks.

According to Goulet the paper is "100g":

But I guess paper weight isn't everthing, especially considering how the Filofax stuff performs. I love the notebook thought. Thought about adding some bungie cord to make it a Midori Traveller style cover.

Well if Goulet says than it is. My thought was on these:

Although it feels thick enough, but how its perform is different... As you said, paper weight isn't everything. To be honest I wasn't expected to much, I was more interested about the cover, than its paper.
