Red Inks For Grading

Corn Poppy Red is my current favorite red. I'm surprised to learn that you know many physicians who have worked in jails; most of the physicians I know would never set foot in one.

no, I simply meant that many have "healthy" egos

Hi all,

I grade, mark and write feedback with Akkerman China Town Red!

Best regards, Tim

If you're still taking suggestions--a nice and interesting red is J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune. It's more of an aubergine, a beautiful subtle color that stands out but doesn't scream "red".

I used to use a subtle red, then realized that wasn't the point. I went on a search for the most vile, obnoxious red I could find. Pelican fits the bill.

Your produce alone was worth the trip...

LOL - and positive comments to students become that much more powerful! Because of your comment, I must check out the Pelican (Pelikan?) (oops, there I go correcting!) red.

You might want to look at Sheaffer Skrip Red.

+1

Sheaffer red is my everyday ink to make corrections on my employee's work.

I used 4 different colors on tonight's grading, none of them in the red family. I need variety after about five papers in a row.

Agreed! Yes, I, too, get tired of the same color after a few papers. Pinks, reds, violets, and super bright blues are what I need in rotation...

Ink of choice: Parker Quink Red.

True red and saturated. Not a shader though. Keeps things business-like and "at arms length" :)

I know it's already been mentioned and I don't know if it's bright enough for grading, but when I was looking for a red ink, I opted for Diamine Oxblood for its darker hue. I love the way it looks and haven't had any issues with it other than when I sneezed on my notes.

I don't often use red when making comments (my preferred color for that is either green or orange) but I like the Waterman Red that I have. Has a nice slight magenta tint to it. And inexpensive, relatively.

I love to use Noodler's Antietam Red when grading papers. But now I want to try everything else!

I'm quite fond of Skrip Red, myself -- easy to see, can't mistake. I use it in a red Sheaffer NoNonsense F. I also have one of the little German Mutschler pens that were marketed as the Marquis by A&W, and I keep it filled with either Diamine Poppy Red (LOVE that red!), or Diamine Red Dragon, which it is at present.

I could wish that 'Red Dragon' were a bit brighter, more of a "Chinese red" to my mind, but it's really more of a dried-blood color. I'm considering added Diamine Matador to my grading-inks collection, but if it's really close to Skrip red, I probably won't.

That being said, I use red inks for grading reading or grammar work, where there IS a definite right or wrong answer; when grading compositions/essays, I use something else like green, turquoise, copper, etc.

I have a few red inks ... so far my favourite is Visconti red ... it's bright yet a bit on dark side.

I'd suggest Diamine Matador as it is quite bright but doesn't have too much of that pinkish hue seen in inks like J. Herbin Rouge Opera and Montblanc Burgundy have. My favorite red is Montblanc Winter Glow because of it's intense dark red color but it's hard to find and unnecessarily expensive. The Montblanc Corn Poppy red might also be a good substitute but unfortunately I have not been lucky enough to try a sample.

An excellent point, Abner. Grade a paper with pink and credibility goes out the window. Better to err on the side of orange.
