Hi FPN,

Yesterday i bought online the beautiful M200 Café Crème. It is pretty difficult to resist to the charm of this nice little pen!

the seller is in Germany and sent the pen today.

I guess i will receive in Malaysia in about 2 weeks time...

This afternoon, here in Kuala Lumpur, i paid a visit to my favorite pen shop: KSGILLS. http://ksgills.com

The owner welcomed me : " Hello Mr Esteboune, great to see you today, we just received the M200 Cafe Creme !"

Me:

I explained him the situation, with the German seller, bla bla bla, how I was sorry, bla bla bla, and we made a deal!

He gives me a brand new M200 Café Crème, and i will bring him the one i will receive in 2 weeks time...!

On top of that, as he knows i like broad nibs, he proposed me to exchange the nib of the Café Crème for a Italic one coming form a M200 cognac.

Of course, i accepted and here is the result:

When i first saw the pen on FPN, i knew that Toffee Brown will be a sensational ink for it.

As for the nib, it is not the smoothest one i have, but definitely fun to use!

Sounds like you have a great pen shop there, esteboune. I have fitted my Cafe Creme with an M250 OB nib. What a pen!

That is a kind of service that is rarely heard of these days. If your story ended with just the personal greeing, I would have been impressed. I envy you having such a brick and mortar available to you. I think that you reached a fair deal and got a great pen all the sooner. Enjoy it!

I love stories like this. B&M stores have a hard time competing on price, but customer service like this means they now have a customer for life. Be sure to make an extra purchase for something when the pen comes in and you get to exchange the nib. Great looking pen and ink combination by the way.

That is some great customer service!

Is the italic nib a special order? I'm leaning more towards italics these days, and didn't know how to get one for a Pelikan short of having one ground down.

Sadly I think the OP was just lucky that the shop were happy to do the swap. I have been told that the factory italic nib is now discontinued. I got a Congac with the nib and I really like it. I would have bought the Cafe Creme too had I been able to buy it with the same nib, but all that was available was the regular F/M/B options.

I suppose we "unusual" nib lovers are very much in a minority these days, a small enough minority to not justify the production costs to Pelikan. Shame.

Yes, the italic nib is on the outs and not being offered with the Cafe Creme. Last it was offered was with the M200 Cognac so i'm sure that some stock exist but you would need to find it and get a dealer to make a swap. It's a shame that Pelikan has whittled down their current nib offerings to such a small and uninspired lot.

Beautiful pen and a good choice of ink. I need to place an order for one, soon. I have no local store that sells Pelikans, so I will be able to avoid profane exclamations.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

i confirm that this italic nib is coming form a M200 Cognac.

And i agree with you, this dealer is excellent!

The price are super competitive moreover.

And finally, there is a very good nib master in house. He is taking care of the maintenance of all my pens, especially the montblanc, since i hate to send the pens for 3 months to Germany for a simple piston lubrification.

I just ordered a Café Crème today. Sadly, my choices of nib were EF, F, M or B (that italic nib looks really sweet!); I finally decided on getting a broad nib, on the theory that if I don't like it, and want it reground, there will more for a nibmeister to work with. And I don't have a lot of broader nibs to begin with (a lot of my pens are vintage, and so a great majority have fine nibs -- the nature of the beast).

Now comes the agonizing wait, since it's coming from Germany and the ETA listed was between the 8th and 24th of April. And patience is not one of my virtues... especially not when it comes to pen shopping.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I'd imagine it'll be sent with slightly higher postage than the basic delivery rate (Painfully slow, only slightly cheaper).

Hopefully it isn't a long wait. I am the same. I hate waiting!
