I would be definitely interested in trying inks from India.

me too....

But what I do not understand Visa is that they are bargaining for a cheaper price of ink which normally costs 18 rupee which is only 27 cents in euro....

Well can understand that the want a lower price the thing that I cannot understand is this...

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/asa%20andy_zpsrlcw4cim.jpg

39 Euros are 2621 Indian Rupee and that is in the Indian Shop...

The english based lower shop even charge 62 GBP which is 85 Euro :excl: :excl: or

a whopping 5720 Rupee...

Those price makes you think twice whether you want an Indian Pen....

Indian Prices making an extra buck

The price difference between an ink of 16 Rupee and pens of 2621-5720 Rupee. that price difference is completely disproportionate....

Especially if you consider some average income in India

According to this article in the Hindu.com http://www.thehindu.com/data/does-it-pay-to-be-a-farmer-in-india/article6713980.ece the average farmer income is only 6425 Rupee a month :excl: ....Meaning that even bought in India the farmer has to pay merely half his monthly income fr a fountain pen...

I find that un believable....

There is nothing wrong wiht makein a little extra but this....

But on hte otherhand I am interested in the ink and FP too :)

NO.

Some of us are trying to convince the manufacturer (Bril) to make a shade of ink (blue-black) that they have discontinued due to some reason(lack of demand).

Some of us are concerned about the high cost of shipping fragile glass bottles internationally and domestically, so are exploring ways to get them in plastic bottles which will be a happy thing for everyone.

Pls note that India is a market with a very large dynamic range. You have some of the poorest people in the world who are Indians and some of the richest people in the world who are also Indians.

So in India Bril sells ink for 18rs to a bottle where as Montblanc sells a bottle of ink for 1500rs. And both are able to sell their wares.

Hope this helps atleast a little in your understanding of the matter.

Those FPs are not used by regular Indians. The ebonite pens made in India are overwhelming bought and used by FP enthusiasts and old people. Those FPs are also sold at a high price in India relative to your perception. I would also add that direct conversion to euros does not make sense. What makes more sense is the PPP of India and Austria. I am pretty sure 40 euros would just be enough for a good lunch for 2 in a decent hotel. With this comparison, the asapens price makes a lot of sense. This does not mean that there are no scamsters trying to make a quick buck. The adage of capitalism is not to sell your product for its true value, but for the value the customers are willing to pay and that is your choice to make.

Thanks a lot for the info Hari...

Unbelievable those income differences.

I spoke wiht Dr J of De Atramentisabout Inks for India.... Still have to receive the exact information.... In the offer he made now dependant on quantiy ink in 35 ml glass bottles was cheaper per mililiter than inks in 250/500/1000 ml PLASTIC bottles.... A little mistake I guess

What I can say now that the prices I have seen now are MUCH much cheaper than the MB ink price you mentioned before.

Because there is no Seller of De Atramentis in India The groupbuy can get some sort of Retailer buying price dependant on quantity....

Well as you might know from the description on my Profile site I have a broad interest in foreign cultures...

Maybe we could do some snail mailing on interesting topics.

I will keep al of you informed on the Ink prices. Dr J will study my E-mails during te Easter Weekend

Regards,

Peter

Dear Peter,

I for one, am certainly interested in Dr. Jansen's pigment based document inks. there are very few options for these outside of Japanese makers like Platinum and Sailor and now Montblanc. Does he also make ferro-gallo-tanno inks?

I am not sure how many of us in India might be interested, however, to qualify as a group buy.

best

Hari

Thanks for sharing such wealth of information Peter! Really interesting articles. It is nice to see the passion such as that of Dr. Franz. Which specific colours of the De Atramentis ink do you like personally?

Dear Indian ink Fans

I have been in friendly contact wiht the utterly friendly owner of De Atramentis ink.... Dr Franz Josef Jansen

The famous Dr J. and his wife Elke ;)

How that come you can read in my topic Declaration of Love to De Atramentis https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/262252-declaration-of-love-to-de-atramentis-inks/

I am in no way connected to De Atramentis I just love the inks an I just love sharing my enthsiasm on nice things..... Well and does Dr J not look like your favourite Grand Dad??? :)

De Atramentis is a small family run Ink Manufacture that produces over 300 handmade inks in over 70 colours!!!

What can I do for you

Due to my contact toDr JaI was able to help peploe to get inks or samples at excellent :) conditions to people in every corner of the world :)

I will have to ask dr Jfor the specific conditions in this case, but from my experience so far I can tell you the following:

If Ordered a 100 bottles the prices are very very nice (Read low :) )

if ordered 500 bottles well what can I tell :puddle:

I believe with so many people responding so far it will not be hard to reach those 100 bottles

Some Examples

I will insert the handwritten examples of some of the inks down here.. I wrote this this morning for this topic.... The links to the more extensive review of the inkswill be underneath... I will also insert some more pics. Laso from artists (they love the permanent Document inks)

@bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.
    • finzi 18 Apr 21:44
@bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.

    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 22:48
@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

lamarax, thank you for a well-informed response! I've been worried that FountainPenHospital in NYC would suffer...
    • bhavini 15 Apr 18:28
What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.
    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 17:03
Hello @Jeffrey Sher, pen club information can be found in the Pen Clubs, Meetings, and Events sub forum. If you use Google site search you can find information specific to Israel.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:33
      Guess who loses
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:30
In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44
Can anyone explain how the tariff war will affect fountain pen prices??

@Astronymus I could use cornstarch... Or i could distill it and make it very concentrated.

    • lamarax 17 Feb 18:05
Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.
    • Astronymus 17 Feb 16:19
YOu might need to thicken the coffee with something. I admit I have no idea with what. But I'm pretty sure it would work.

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27
I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

    • JungleJim 1 Sept 1:55
Perhaps it's like saying Beetlejuice 3 times to get that person to appear, though with @Sailor Kenshin you only have to say it twice?

@Seney724. The pen was recently disassembled and cleaned, but the nib and feed were not properly inserted into the holder. I'm in Maryland.
    • Diablo 26 Aug 21:32
@Seney724. The nib section needs to be adjusted properly.

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen

I have a Conway Stewart Trafalgar set. It was previously owned by actor Russell Crowe and includes a letter from him. Can anyone help me with assessing its value?
