Ebay Scam?

Has anyone else experienced an eBay seller with an enticingly-low price who receives payment and then doesn't send the item? This is an old scam that sellers with a large audience can try; if you do it often enough, you'll eventually find someone will forget that they paid for nothing.

I never forget about money on the table but I guess there's a sucker born everyday. I've had to file a couple of claims over the years for non-shipment but I don't know if the seller was trying to defraud me or if the end price was too low. I avoid low feedback sellers like the plague.

This has happened to me only twice. A Thai seller selling a refurbished ebonite pen, ok a very low price, but he never sent the goods.

A US seller, sold a Vacumatic, sent the box with the packing material but no pen and seller denied all knowledge. Box had not been opened in transit.

These were not the enticingly low prices you suggest but the auction prices didnt reach what the seller had hoped.

I never forget about money on the table...

I'd like to think that I don't either but if someone forgets, it's forgotten. Unless, of course, you remember.

I avoid low feedback sellers like the plague.

This is a really good thing to remember. (Unless, of course, you forget.)

All sellers were low feedback sellers once, including the large majority who are good traders.

Kind regards

It's true. I've been stung though; it's hard to get a feeling about a seller's integrity when you've got only a listing to go on.

I read EVERY negative feedback comment, for a seller, before bidding.

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Here's a curious new wrinkle. I got my refund from the eBay seller (in Japan) and decided to ask him, "Why didn't you send me the pen?" He replied that they didn't have any in stock, apologized, and offered to send me $20 in compensation for my trouble. I told him that wouldn't be necessary but if he had told me there would be a delay in shipping the pen that I would have waited.
