Seitz-Kreuznach Tomato Red

Cyber6

Recommended Posts

There is a NEW Ink Player out there. Seitz-Kreuznach is offering good value for their ink. In summary:

  • Most of them are medium-wet
  • Decent water resistance
  • Colors are vibrant.. except Flamingo Pink
  • Warning: with a broad wet pen, you WILL get show through and some bleed through

The 'some bleedthrough but not too bad' seem to be darker than the rest of it, on my monitor. Does the ink seem to change color and/or vary with width/writing speed?

I have wet pens... and broad nibs. I am sure it will be fine for someone with fine nibs and medium wet pens.

Dark Orchid was the biggest culprit.

It looks pinkish on my monitor.

Ditto, and a nice pinkish at that.

I added a pack of their black carts to my last order (before they tripled their prices). A nice black, with quite a bit of cyan lurking in it.

Are they selling it in bottles now, Cyb?

Last time I checked... they had all colors in bottles at both places... right now, they seem to be more stocked at their eBay store (??)

A couple of years ago, their prices were dirt cheap, like a two dollars something for 30ml of Pelikan ink. Ten carts of their ink was 99 cents!

So, is it pinkish?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

The one on the card looks red, the sample on the Fabraino paper appears pinkish.

If your image is white balanced, as it appears to be, this "tomato red" is on the cool side (very slightly leaning pink). I'd call it Strawberry not Tomato.

Never seen a pink tomato??..

This are the closest I could find.... you need to disregard the incredible sheen in Cardinal Red to see the similarities.. Cardinal Red (to the naked eye) looks like a more saturated Tomato Red... very similar hue.

We actually have these beautiful heirloom tomatoes available that are gorgeous pink. But it's not quite the color I normally associate with the name Tomato Red.

And I have to say, I always thought Rouge Caroubier was poorly named (the fruit is a maroon) until I realized it is the flower they are referring to.

Thanks for the comparison. None of these would fall in my "colors I like" category, though the Levenger looks the best of the three to me.

Also.. warning they may be stainers. Arctic blue and I are not happy.

I saw the stain on the test tube that you sent. Arctic blue (the only one I've tried so far) does stain. But Goulet's Pen Flush cleared some of it up for me in about 1 minute. I'll check to see if overnight completely gets the color out.

Much improved. I think it's still too much residue and a little to dry for me. I bought the Orchid, so I'll share it, but I am worried that it too will be a stainer.

I'll report back on that. Since I had never seen Seitz-Kreuznach ink before, I ordered the Orchid and Tomato, without having checked the forum to see what other folks' experiences had been. So when they arrive, I'll be careful, and post photos.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tomatenrot and Orchideen Violett have arrived.

The caps on the bottles do not seal as well as one might wish, but the mess was confined (mostly) to the cellophane seal at the top:

The Tomato Red is very red on the index card. There is just the slightest hint of pink, but it's very subtle --at least with the batch I have. I put it right between R&K Morinda and J. Herbin Roughe-Rose (scented). I'll need to do some testing on other types of papers to see about feathering and bleed through --I suspect they may be slightly naughty inks...
