Seitz-Kreuznach Dark Orchid

Recommended Posts

There is a NEW Ink Player out there. Seitz-Kreuznach is offering good value for their ink. In summary:

  • Most of them are medium-wet
  • Decent water resistance
  • Colors are vibrant.. except Flamingo Pink
  • Warning: with a broad wet pen, you WILL get show through and some bleed through (some are worst than others)

As a "Dark Orchid," this is anything but dark. This is bright, but still kinda pretty. Maybe would use for drawings and other ridiculous things, but not for professional things.

Thanks for doing all the work. I'll only post once, despite having looked at all these Seitz-Kreuznach reviews. I was hoping that I'd like them, basic colors, large bottles—100 mL—and "Made in Austria". But none of them appeals to me, except the Navy Blue, but I have lots of similar blues.

Now I have more money to spend on all those crazy Japan-only Sailor inks you tempt me with. Just received Bung Box Ink of the Witch from Vanness Pens. I love almost-black purples.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

This one irritates me almost as much as Yama-budo does.

Love your writing though, you could send me a letter any time.

You are the one who introduced me to Stealth Blacks. You would also like Nishikisan. When I see you, we can fill up a pen for you.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My view of this ink is good. I like the color (yes, I like lilac / orchid / violet colors!). I didn't have any bleedthrough or feathering on good paper (e.g., this Rhodia 80g graph paper), but definitely on cheaper, spongey paper (see the 3 x 5 notecard below). Happy with this ink --more so than the Tomatenrot.

I tried a bottle and got a magenta color closer to the OP than the later post. I compared this to the old USA Sheaffer Lavender and this is decidedly more pinkish. I think it a nice color and prefer it to just another indistinguishable purple. Though this and the Sheaffer are on the pastel side they are pretty legible, unlike some pinks out there.

On cheap loose-leaf notebook paper I saw above average feathering and bleed through though the ink was perfectly usable if you only used one side of the paper.

The bottle is labeled in both German and English. I think a literal translation of the German would be "orchid violet" Why it turned "dark" crossing the Atlantic I am not sure. I checked some orchid photos online and found a wide variety of colors but quite a few were a light pinkish purple compared to which this might seem "dark". (Photo credit: A./B. Larsen)

Not sure how I missed the thread before now.....

The first scans look a lot like J Herbin Rose Tendresse -- an ink I thought I would like and then didn't (the slightly purplish undertone to the pink made for a color that somehow set my teeth on edge). The second batch of scans make it look like a slightly pinker version of MB Lavender Purple (an ink that I DO like). So, at some point I might try a sample of this.

Thanks for the reviews.
