I chuck the funnel away immediately and have a little tilting implement that helps me get some (occasionally most) of the ink out of those infuriatingly appalling bottles...

The tilting implement that Nagasawa made is pretty good. :)

I removed that funnel from 2 of my bottles, 58 to go. I try to use these colours in my eyedropper pen.

I'm considering throwing away my 4B ink then cleaning out the bottle so that I can put my Rikyu cha in there.

Consider selling that ink as samples? Much better and others would be able to try the ink.

I think the Nagasawa bottle holder is brilliant. Works so well & looks gorgeous.

Throwing away an ink as brilliant as 4B would break my heart! :/

Pour the ink into another bottle and send it to me. :) Or PIF the ink to FPN members, many would be happy.

Maybe I could just swap bottles actually, using a container to pour the 4B into while cleaning out the bottles. You're right, it would be wasteful to throw it away. I should try it again. :)

The new set of Sailor inks that are officially issued in October include Rikyu cha that is very similar, or may even be identical, to Cigar, depending on your point of view. So if I was you I would get one of those bottles.

I can't wait to see Rikyu cha!

Cigar and R-C are indeed very similar but I've never found them to be identical, whichever bottles I use. I prefer Cigar, because it is more complex and has less of that reddish undertone that typifies Sailor browns.

These are two fresh swabs, done this morning. I made sure I used bottles that I bought around the same time, rather than a mix of my older or newer bottles.

Not only do these inks change dramatically from wet to dry but I find that the change continues as the ink ages on the paper. Cigar gets more of a smoky-green, compared to Rikyu-cha's red-brown. Both are intriguing inks

Certainly I agree that R-C makes an adequate alternative, but Cigar somehow has the edge for me. Personal preference of course.

Even an old Dundee's marmalade jar, which would offer protection from the light; Even Ms AmberLea doesn't have one of those in her assorted ink cupboards!

Yeah, that's the one. Apparently they stopped making it though.

Too many pens; too little writing.

That seems to be the rule in the fountain pen world: if it's useful or highly desirable, they'll stop making it.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

It's true they've been discontinued, but they do turn up now and again for sale. I bought another a couple of months or so ago. It was a bit pricey but I use it everyday so I was willing to fork out for it,

I am haunted by 4B. I am beloved of 4B.

Everytime I get rid of it someone buys me another bottle as a gift lol.

This is probably the most unique ink in my collection. It shows a variety of colors depending on pen and paper, including green, gray, brown, and red.
